George V Hilburn [email protected] Dublin Post, April 28, 1886: Died, Mr. Ira E Hilbun, whom we reported in our last issue, as being in a critical condition, died at the residence of his grandfather, Vaughn Hilbun, in this county on Thursday morning at 1 a.m. Ira was a young man of sterling qualities, and worthy of the confidence bestowed upon him by the people. His motto was upward and onward dealing out justice to all. He leaves a wife, one child, and a host of relatives and friends to deplore his death. Dublin Post, same date: Mr. B.H. Blackshear has been appointed county surveyor by the Ordinary to fill the vacancy occasioned by the death of Mr. Ira E. Hilbun. Dublin Post, June 23, 1884: Mr. Ira E. Hilbun has charge of a fine school of forty-two pupils at Pleasant Springs Church. George V Hilburn [email protected] Dublin Post, August 8, 1878: Another Good Man Gone, Mr. Willis Carter of the extreme eastern portion of this county died on last Sunday of cancer in the face. He was a gentleman of strict integrity and genuine worth, and as noble-hearted a man as ever lived. Dublin Post, Sept 4, 1878: Obituary, Died at his residence in Laurens County, August 2, 1878, Mr. Willis Carter, aged eighty years. He leaves behind a wife, seven children, and a large circle of friends to mourn his loss. Truly the people have lost a good neighbor, and the county a good citizen and a man upright in all his dealings. His heart and hand were open to the needy. We believe the county has lost one of her best men. For the writer of this brief notice has lived a near neighborto him for thirty-five years, and always found him a kind-hearted gentleman, a loving husband, and an affectionate father. But we mourn not as those who have no hope; we believe our loss is his eternal gain. A Friend Some of the once-a-week newspapers can be searched at the following location. Carol, I have different information than you do. To start I have James Jackson Wilson m. Susan Meeks. 1850 EMANUEL CO. I wonder from the 1850 census if that James b. abt 1849 died maybe. I don't know. Do you think they really named 2 sons James, (James Jonas and then James Jackson). I don't know. As you usual I stay confused. Anyway James and Susan are my ggg grandparents, by way of their daughter Celia Jane or Sealy Jane that married Joseph Jeremiah Brantley. 1870 Laurens Co. GA Census J.M. I am working on the family tree on myfamily.com. I believe that my dad has a copy of the family history that your mom wrote. I will ask him. If he does, he doesn't let it out of his sight. I am going to try to get a couple more copies made. I have had numerous people ask about this book. I also had a question about Walter Bedingfield. Was Walter a nickname. For some reason l have William Eli listed as the husband of Julia Taylor. Thanks again. Julia Meredith Bedingfield

I believe Thaddeus Dean, also found in the Live Oak, Fla. (close to the area and at the time Mary Ann and Wm Henry Rousseau were there). I believe he is possibly a brother to Mary Ann. Will have to take a closer look later. I have found the Dean line in the north, believe they came to VA; then NC, Sc, then went west and south. But have no line on a Richard or his family. Undoftunately, the Florida/Ga. area was considered "Territorial" and not a state. Have been searching the "Territorial Papers". Very difficult to do from a distance. So far nothing. Hello everyone Just a FYI for those of you that dont know that there are tons of newspapers on microfilm available thru the inter library loan program thru the University of georgia. To see which newspapers are available visit http://www.libs.uga.edu/gnp/titlelist.html and you can see what dates they have also. You have to pay for postage but that is it and this is very helpful for people that cant travel. Hope this helps someone. Sincerely Scott Warren
