I've just begun my search of the Miller and Smith families of Jones Co. (Clinton) and admit that, presently, I'm working on suppositions. I would appreciate any help in proving the following line: Jeremiah Miller, born about 1810 and died between 1866 and 1870, married Harriet Unknown. One of their children (extracted from the 1850 and 1860 census) Jeremiah K. (probably "Kitchen" or "Kinchen") Miller married Rebecca J. Smith. Again based on census records, I believe Rebecca was the daughter of John T. Smith and Elizabeth or Caroline C. Unknown. (Rebecca's older sister Amanda L. Smith married Jeremiah Miller (the elder) after the death of Harriet.) The 1870 census lists J. Kitchen (age 27) and Rebecca J. (age 26) with the following children: Hattie, age 9; Jerry, age 4; and Taylor, age 2. Yet, none of these children are listed in the household of J. K. and R. J. in the 1880 census when they are found in TX. According to the 1880 census, the couple had the following children: F. E. (Frances Elizabeth) age 9, born in GA; R. J. (Rebecca J.), 7, GA; M. A., 5, AL; and L. M. (Lennie Maude), 2, TX. According to family tradition J. Kitchen and Rebecca J. (Smith) Miller died in TX about 1886. Lennie Maude (my grandmother) and her sister Frances Elizabeth "Bessie" moved to New Orleans. Bessie later married Robert C. Hamilton; Lennie Maude married Henry Blessen. Any help proving--or disproving--the Miller/Smith line is welcome. Thank you-- Maude Ann
