The will of John Doggett was dated 27 January 1813 and proved in Jasper County on 10 March 1813. He was a son of John Doggett of Columbia County, Ga. and Northumberland County, VA. Many members of this family settled in Jones and Jasper County about the time that these counties were formed. Legatees of John Doggett were "Jeremiah Smith, son of griffin" and his brother, Bolin Smith, who was also named executor. A third brother, Rolin Smith, witnessed John's will. The Doggett daughters were not named. Also named were the heirs of Asa Doggett, John's brother, and the heirs of Rebecca Dickson, wife of John Dickson, deceased, John Doggett's sister.
