Mariah ___ The 1830 Federal Census records Mariah Smith as head of household with 4 sons and 5 daughters. The only known child was Jeremiah Griffin Smith b. 1818, m. Bethana Morris, Nov. 21, 1841 (Spelling from marriage certificate.) A probable son was Stephen R. Smith m. Sophia Mills, age 29 on Census of 1850. On that date he sold to Frederick Freeman lot 145 in the 9th district. It was recorded December 20, 1811 in Book C, p. 258, Jones County deeds. On December 26th, 1807 a deed to "Moses Smith of Lincoln County from John Gravy of Wilkes County" Lot #110, 202 1/2 acres in the 13th District of Baldwin County, for $200. Recorded March 6, 1816 Book 7, p. 177-178, Jasper County Deeds. This Smith family traces from Lawrence Smith, English immigrant in 1652 to Gloucester County, Va. through Augustine, Thomas, Samuel and Dr. Griffin Smith of Nottoway Co., Va. d. 1819 in Baldwin County, Ga.
