Hello All, Haven't forgot about the list, been very busy. Today I called the Tax Office in Twiggs County. I was able to pinpoint the lot number that my OBEDIAH EVANS b abt 1817 owned in 1860. Lot #90. Someone gave me this info a few months back. They were able to look up the lot number on an old 1892 District map and gave me some of the previous owners names. The land was located between Old Marion Rd. and Seymonds Gaskins Rd. in Twiggs co. The land 272 acres was purchased in 1990 from a Gary and Charlotte Prim (property is known as Barksdale Estate). They purchased it from James Emery Corporation who purchased it from William Howard Barkside in 1937. Barkside purchased it from MORRIS BURGESS in 1932. Unfortunately, couldn't go back any further without knowing when Morris Burgess could have purchased it. The Tax Office needs an approximate date. Books that old are in 10 year increments. My question is this: Does anyone have this MORRIS BURGESS? or any BURGESS for Twiggs, Jones or Wilkinson? The land has been mined. Does anyone have any history on the Kaolin Mining Industry in Twiggs County? When did they begin mining there? I would also like some History on Camp Wheeler. When was it started? How or who would I contact about civilian employees that worked there? My father worked at Camp Wheeler in the 1950's. He is deceased. He had a son that was killed with a grenade at Camp Wheeler. He was about ten years old and was playing with some friends. Some of the older Twiggs residents might rememeber the accident. It was publicezed in the Macon Paper. Thanks......maybe this will get some chat going. We have been to quiet on this list lately. LOL Sincerely, pat
