Eli Clark is listed as the head of the household on the Jones County census of 1820. There is an Eli in Burke County in 1807, and Eli is in Thomas County by 1830, so Eli's sojourn in Jones County didn't remain long. There seem to be some good historians on the list. I'm wondering if he left any traces in Jones County besides the census record. Does anyone know if Jones was a county stopping off place for those going further south?
