    1. [GA-JONES] Cemetery Information from the Civil War - Harpers Ferry, Dept. of West Virginia
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Mitchells Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Xc.2ADI/1155 Message Board Post: The Harpers Ferry Civil War Round Table will hear George Levy speak on the search for lost Confederate graves, first funded by Congress in 1906. The meeting is at Camp Hill Methodist Church, Washington and Gilmore Streets, in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. The telephone number given is in Maryland: (301) 353-1446. Any information, narrative or pictorial, about Warren Anderson Mitchell, C.S.A., would be appreciated. Warren Anderson Mitchell was born in Jones County, Georgia, on December 10, 1829. He was married in Jones County, Georgia, on March 26, 1861, to Lucinda Christian Mitchell. Warren Anderson Mitchell was the great grandson of Henry Mitchell, Revolutionary Soldier, Jones County, and Sarah Maderias Mitchell. Warren was serving, on duty, in the recruiting office, at Camp Watts, near Notasulga, Alabama, when he contracted pneumonia and died on November 20, 1862. He was taken back to his old home in Clinton, Georgia, and buried. Warren's widowed spouse, Lucinda Christian Mitchell, was a survivor of General Sherman's March to the Sea, and the invasion of Clinton, Georgia. With one-third of the town burned and the presence of 15,000 Federal troops--was Macon, Georgia, the destination of evacuees from Jones County? I have located Confederate Widow's Pension Claim Number 3655, dated August 24, 1891, for Jones County, Georgia, at the Washington Memorial Library in Macon. The widow's pension claim does not include any company or regimental information. I would like to locate this information. For example, in May of 1956, upon removal of a confederate monument in Macon, Georgia, the Civil War roster of Company F, 45th Regiment (Jones County), Georgia Volunteer Infantry, was found. Two of Mrs. Lucinda Christian Mitchell's brothers are listed in this roster: First Sgt. Hardy Christian, C.S.A., who was serving and was surrendered at Appomattox, and Pvt. William H. Christian, C.S.A., who was serving and who died at Guiney Station, Virginia, in May of 1863. Any information is appreciated. Sincerely thanking you, Terri Anne Hastings Average e-mail is o.k.: purchaseorders@yahool.com
