    3. I feel certain someone on these lists can help out.... Dannymims@aol.com Date: Sun, 22 Sep 2002 13:22:33 EDT Hi Virginia.... My name is Danny Mims, and I live outside of Dallas in the little town of Bartonville, Tx. I am researching the Mims of early Goergia. I am the son of Harry Page Mims, son of Benjamin Hill Mims, son of John Wesley Mims, son of Henry Augustus Mims, b 1797 in Ga., Jones Co. (we think). Henry Married Sarah Wimberly in 1818, Jones Co (1820 Census), moved to Talbot Co (1830 Census), was named a trustee for Talbotton Female Academy 1830, was a JP, then a Judge (Inferior Court)1834, moved to Mississippi, back to Alabama (1840 Census), on to Texas 1846, (1850,1860 Census) and died there in 1864, Marion Co. **Note: Wish we did have those early records, but I don't believe any exist. I cannot find the parents of Henry Mims. There were 5 Mims who received land as payment for Revolutionary War service, all in Washington Co, Ga. (which in later times was split into quite a few counties) all in 1784-85. We think one of these 5 men was Henry's father. My question is, how do I go about tracking each of these 5 pieces of land, where would the records be, to see who inherited land from their father? Would these records be in County, State, or National Archive stuff? **Richard, can you please help answer this one? We have the date, acreage, and survey number for each, but I think I need to find a map of those surveys, to locate in which county each tract ended up. Also, we are trying to track 2 daughters found in the Census Data for 1830 and 1840, and then disappeared. Since Henry was a trustee for a girl's school, it stands to reason he had daughters there. I found a blurb in a book of "early Georgia newspaper notices" that said, "Died near Auburn, Macon Co., Ala. on 18 August, 1841, Mrs A. A. Duke, wife of Hamilton Duke, dau of Col. H. Mims, formerly of Talbot County, Ga." ***Duke researchers --- here's your section! Who is Mrs. A.A Duke.... The 1840 Census, Macon Co. Al. shows H. Mims living right next door to.......guess who........ H. Dukes. Also, Hamilton Duke is listed as a member of the Talbot Co. Militia in 1835. I found the other daughter, Sarah, in Texas, married to James Cheatham, and when I contacted the Cheatham clan, yes, they had listed a Sarah J, wife of James Cheatham, Cass Co., whose parents were Henry and Sarah Mims. Now the Question....do records still exist from the Talbotton Female Academy, 1830-35, like class lists with maybe parents names? We would really like to find the given name for our "A. A. Mims" We (my sister Carol Mims Smith, and 3rd cousin Pat Tolliver) have compiled volumns of stuff, which we would be happy to share with you, or anyone else who wants info on Henry and Sarah Mims, and all their kids, and all their kids, et al. **Note: I have a great uncle George T. Ruffin who named a Helen Mims Ruffin -- she lived only 2 years 1894-1896 in Taylor County...but I've always wondered why the choice of this name. I thought perhaps he was a friend of a "Mims". Thanks for your efforts in genealogy, Danny dannymims@aol.com Virginia Crilley
