    3. Hi All, I just joined this list, hoping as do all of us, to find some answers to some very perplexing questions. I am researching the ASHLEY surname and while trying to run down some census reports for the years 1800-1840 in Hancock County, the microfilm was very difficult to read, but there was a notation that indicated Jones County which perplexed me immensely. Present day Baldwin County sits between the two counties of Hancock and Jones so am I safe in assuming that at one time, this was all one large area? I would be very grateful to anyone who has access to a census reference book that would search for the Ashley surname for me in the time frame 1800-1840 to see what households & composition were listed. If there are any after 1840, I would appreciate that also. I will try to reciprocate by helping you in any way I possibly can. I am very anxious to see what names there might be and if the William or John Ashley family moved out of Hancock and into Jones or if there were other family members there also. At this point of my research, I don't know if they were part of the family that moved southward into Washington & Jefferson and Wilkinson counties or part of the family that moved up into Greene & Morgan counties. Best regards, Jane Ashley Benson
