    3. Does anyone know more about Simri Rose. I saw that he married Ann Blount of Blountville... BUT I also read: Thomas Bog SLADE, Baptist minister, and head of the Clinton Female Seminary and later teacher at Wesleyan married Miss Ann BLOUNT of Blountsville. So maybe there were TWO Ann Blounts --- or two marriages/ I'd like to find out more about Rose....and I'm sure there must be something about his burial on-line somewhere....in Rose Hill -- maybe a monument? http://www.rootsweb.com/~gajones/hawkins.htm#people This quote comes from Dianne Wilcox who has shared so much information about Ft. Hawkins... Rose, Simri - Publisher of The Georgia Messenger, moved publication from Fort Hawkins to Macon in 1823. Wilcox says that the first name of The Georgia Messenger was The Bulldog, and that a later version is today called The Macon Telegraph. Rose's portrait now hangs in The Macon Telegraph's offices. Rose was instrumental in the planning of The City of Macon and planned what is now "The Oldest Landscaped Cemetery in the United States (Rose Hill) in 1840 in return for his chosen burial plot. Roster of the Confederate Soldiers of Georgia - 1861 - 1865 Vol. V., by Lillian Henderson, 1960. Also, Confederate Soldiers of Jones Co., GA., Frank M. Abbott Collection, Washington Memorial Library, Macon, GA. In the Confederate Veteran, Vol. 20, January 1912, p. 516, appears an article in which Edward Jefferson Ritchey is seeking information from former comrades in Co. A., 54th GA Reg., Mercer's old brigade, transferred to Walker, Gen. Cleburn's Div.; in order to secure a pension. The article says he was in the service from May, 1862 until he was mustered out at the surrender, and that he was wounded seven times, six of these being by bullets and once by a shell. His address is given as Ashburn, GA where he moved with his family about 1900. The surrender of Lee's Army of Vol. at Appomattox Court House took place on April 9, 1865. Edward Jesse was slow to return home to Jones Co., perhaps due to his was injuries. In 1867 he married Nancy Elizabeth (Nannie) Long of Jones Co., GA. He was a farmer, and he and Nannie reared a large family. Family members tell the story that he would 'brew up some weeds, bottle it, load up his wagon or buggy, and take off, whenever the notion struck'. This might be for a few days, weeks, or months. In later years his son, Edward Jesse Jr., would take over as head of the family when necessary. In 1880, Nannie took the seven children back home to her parents in the Fowles District of Jones Co., GA. In 1900 she and Jessie moved to Worth, near Ashburn, GA along with other members of the family. A daughter, Ida Ritchey Farr and her family lived about 3 miles away. Ida would bake chicken pies for her father, which he loved. A son, Will, lived nearby, on a farm. Edward Jessie and Nannie spent their final years in the home of their daughter Minnie Taffiney Ritchey Piper, at Chula, Tift Co, GA. Another daughter, Tempie Ritchey Cook, and her family were nearby, on an adjoining farm. Nannie died in 1915, Jessie in 1918. Information regarding births, marriages and deaths obtained from Bible records of Nannie and Jessie Ritchey, in possession of Flora Mozelle (Farr) Smith, Newberry, FL; also Bible records of Tempie (Ritchey) Cook, in possession of Pauline (Cook) Martin, Tifton, GA. The Rutland District of Bibb would be south of Macon so I thought perhaps some men came from adjoining counties. Who is Lewis Whittle? I'm trying to learn more about this Battalion --- this seems to be a very early company roster. Source: The Macon Daily Telegraph, page 1, published April 2, 1862. It is an early muster roll of the "Whittle Guards" Company D, 10th Battalion Georgia Volunteer Infantry. 2. H & H Insulation
    3. My uncle (Benjamin Barber Hadaway) is a descendant of James H. Hadaway who was born in Georgia and (we think) migrated from Jones Co., Ga. to Chambers Co., Al. around 1840.. It has always been passed down through this line that the name was originally spelled "Hathaway" and that they were from England? James H. Hadaway and Mary's first child was born c 1841-1842 so I'm guessing that James H. was born circa 1820. We have not proven his parents, but he named his first son "James DAVID Hadaway" and we think there may be a connection to the David Hadaway listed in Jones Co. If anybody determines who were the children of David Hadaway, I'd love to know. I believe she was the daughter of John Hataway and the brother of John Hataway born in 1828. She was married to J. Watts when the 1850 census was taken, so she does not appear on that record with the family; however, the 1840 census record shows that John Hataway had a daughter that would be the age of Adaline. Do you know who was John(br. about 1799) Hataway's father? A David Hataway is listed on the 1820, 1830, and 1840 Jones Co. census who I think might have been John's father. In the History of Jones Co, David was listed as the executor of a William's will. I'm wondering if this is David's son or father. In several surrounding counties, several Hataways are listed as being born in Pitt Co. NC, so I wonder if David H. migrated into Jones Co. about 1820 from Pitt Co., NC. If we can find a record that connects our family to them, there are ! records of the Hataways originally Hathaways back to Plymouth, MA. Can you provide any information that may help me make this connection? I would love to share information with you. Brenda ______________________________

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.msn.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/5541/Xc.2ADI/618.2 Message Board Post: I have found a reference to Rhoda Bedell who married William C. Osborn. I believe Rhoda Bedell & first husband W. A. Bedell had a son, also W. A. Bedell (William Augustus Bedell) born ca 1833 in Georgia. W. A. Bedell (born 1833) is my gg grandfather. Any information you have on this Bedell family would be greatly appreciated.
