Hi, I received his little books via interlibrary loan. What a gold mine. Jeanie Smith Zadach Savannah, GA
I have a lead!!!!!! there is a cedar creek located in jones co. neara Stewart Chapel on Shoal Creek Rd. also near a Glady Creek hunt Camp and Hog Creek. It is south of Miller Creek. I believe there is going to be a cemetery there with my EVANS in it deep in the woods. It is listed on GNIS as being in a little place called Stanfordville. does any of this ring a bell to anyone else??? thanks pat
Dear Pat, You may be sorry that you offered to help. Do you have anything on William Pickney Jones 1826-1909 (b. Jones/d.Upson) and wife Susan Malinda Childs 1829-?? (b.? d. Upson). Believe that William father was Landrum. Thank you for your time. Barbara Boswell Thomas
Several years ago the Ga Genealogy Quarterly published the Early deeds of Jones Co. Altogether, they probably covered all of the first volume of deeds. About 15 years ago I found a 4 volume set of books on the "History of the People of Jones Co Ga in Sutro Library in San Francisco. The series was compiled by Frank Abbott and included Early County Records, Family Sketches, and one entire volume dedicated to listings from 96 of the county cemeteries. Thankfully I managed to copy most of the books before they disappeared from circulation. Unfortunately, they are not indexed, so doing lookups would be extremely tedious. They were published by National Printing Company, Macon Ga, and an address given for Lineage Unlimited, P.O. Box 4252, Macon Ga 31208. This I assume was Mr Abbott's address at the time. Perhaps some one in or around Macon could check on the availability of these wonderful books. Carol Johnson
Pat, I am interested in the DAVIS name..particularly William and son William Owen. Thanks, Myrl Ross
There are individual maps for counties which show how the state was divided into Districts for every land lottery in Georgia. They are available from the Georgia Archives. Like Pat, I would like to know more about some of these folks if possible. My interests include those surnamed ERNEST...especially Asa. will welcome any info available!!! Other possible surnames in Jones CO. include McElroy, and Childs/Chiles. No given names are available for these who possibly resided in Jones CO. However, offspring names are Juliette (Julia) Ferris McElroy Sherwood ( b. abt. 1855) and Sarah Elizabeth Chiles (Lizzie Childs)Sherwood (b. early 1870s). (both lived in Bibb CO GA after marriages) Jennifer Sherwood Braswell [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, January 04, 2000 11:29 AM Subject: Tax List for Jones County : While in Jones County this past summer i obtained the following. though not : the complete tax digest.....it may help someone. Another printing was made a year or two ago. I ordered a copy from the address below. At that time she was not on the net. But I'm sure that a letter to her would let; you know what is available. Charles Middlebrooks Carolyn William Harris 1559 South 6th Street Griffin, GA 30223
