    2. In a message dated 00-01-09 17:52:05 EST, [email protected] writes: << Miller Cemetery on the Jones County "DOT" map >> Does anyone know anything about the MILLERS of Jones County??? I would love to find the family of Aletha R. MILLER, b. March 18, 1810, supposed to be the first wife of my ggf, William H. FEAGIN. I show she was b. in GA, but don't know where. Since he appears to have been b. in Jones County, I assume she could have been one of these MILLERS. Any ideas??? Thanks Zou Feagin [email protected]

    3. There is a cemetery at the intersection of Hillsboro Lake Road and Hadaway Road that fits in the area that you cited. It is near Glady Creek too, and is very close to the Jasper County line, but in Jones County. I have not visited this cemetery but it is marked on the Jones County DOT map. I have a copy of the map in adobe acrobat "pdf" format, if anyone wants a copy. It's about 900kb in size. ----- Original Message ----- From: Myrl Ross <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, January 09, 2000 6:12 PM Subject: [GAJONES] Jones Co Cemeteries > David, Since you are familiar with that area, are you familiar with a > cemetery possibly in the Hillsboro area. 3. David, Since you are familiar with that area, are you familiar with a cemetery possibly in the Hillsboro area. When we were there, we looked for the cemetery mentioned in the deed record. The land is obviously partly in both Jasper and Jones counties. We know the family lived on Glady Creek but that really doesn't help except to find it close to both county borders. We also discovered that this area is in the Oconee Forest. I am sure that it is unkept if it still exists and of course it will be on private property. Just curious to know if anyone has any suggestions or if you have any knowledge of such a cemetery. The following is an exerpt from the deed transfer to Matilda Roe: "......the said William O Davis now lives containing three hundred and seven acres more or less with the exception of a half acre where the grave yard or burying ground is and which is reserved. Number fifty two [52] in the three hundred and sixtieth district [360] of Jones County containing one hundred and ninety two acres and one hundred and fifteen acres in the county of Jasper adjoining of the aforementioned land of the said fifty two lying on the county line of Jasper and Jones countys adjoining of lands of Whit Harper and others."

    1. [GAJONES] Blountsville, GA - Miller Cemetery - Damascus Church Rd - Jones County, GA
    2. David V. Clinard
    3. North of Gray off of US 129, turn left on unmarked dirt road across from Ellis Church Road. This is Damascus Church Road. Go about 1.5 to 2 miles and on your left in the woods is what appears to be an abandoned cemetery. It's called the Miller Cemetery on the Jones County "DOT" map. There appears to be some land clearing going on in this area; clear-cutting of the trees or some kind of development. I hope the cemetery is safe. No relation to me, but here are the graves I found: There is a small stone wall enclosure visible from the road with a huge oak tree growing in it. It's about 12 feet by 18 feet and contains no visible graves. Next to this enclosure are: Annie Miller infant dau. AJ and EW Miller 8/2/1861 - 8/15/1862 Then there are 5 footstones in a row, with these initials: JM, BAM, MEM, KVM, MAFM. At the head of these footstones is one large headstone with inscription on all four sides as follows: M.E. Miller born 9/17/1878 (?) B.A. Miller born 8/12/1880 (and written under this is) James Miller born 2/11/1883 K.V. Miller born 10/5/1872 M.A.F. Miller born 10/30/1853 (written under this names is) "All Killed by a cyclone Feb. 19, 1884" To the left down a short slope is this headstone and slab: Frances Elizabeth Miller 8/3/1859 - 9/7/1927. Next to it is an older slab with worn writing that I could not make out. There were several, maybe 40 obvious unmarked (sunken) graves in the surrounding area. There was one more headstone away from the others that read this: John Pounds, Georgia, Private, 316 Serv. Bn. OMC, August 1922. An Official Georgia Historical marker at the US 129 intersection reads: Blountsville - Near here was Blountsville, an early stagecoach station and post office until after the War Between the States. It suffered severely during the War and the town disappeared. The home of many prominent families, Blountsville was the site of Blountsville Academy, chartered in 1834 with Allen Drury, William E. Ethridge, John W. Stokes, Francis Tufts and John W. Gordon serving as trustees. Blountsville was named for the Blount family, pioneer Georgians. A strong Baptist Church was here, first led by Rev. Benjamin Milner. The Tift, Dumas, Miller, Williams, McCullough and Hurt families were other pioneers."

    1. [GAJONES] Grave of Jeremiah Dunn: Hungerford - Nelson Cemetery - Jones County GA
    2. David V. Clinard
    3. North of Gray off of US 129, turn left at Shoal Creek Rd; you will see a stone wall enclosed area on the right about 20 yards down the road. This area is on Hungerford Family property. The stone enclosure measures about 25 feet by 18 feet and is about 4 feet high. Only one headstone is visible in the enclosed area: Jeremial Dunn died May 1821. Several graves marked with stones only are visible. Up on a hill above this stone enclosure is a marker reading "Hungerford - Nelson".

    3. Virginia ... the B&B on the Jarrell Plantation site is wonderful ... the Jarrell's there are my extended half-family from my 3rd great grandmother. Phillip and Amelia Haynes are the caretakers and live in the home and have great hospitality. They really enkoy genealogy and the Plantation staff can really assist those in search of Jones County history ... the home is the site of our annual Jarrell Family Reunion in the fall ... if anyone would like, I can forward their address or e-mail. -Meredith ----Original Message Follows---- From: Crilley <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Subject: [GAJONES] Visiting Jones County Date: Sat, 8 Jan 100 16:47:25 CST I know some of you are planning a trip to GA and the Jones County area for research, so I thought we might share some experiences and help others in planning for their trip. http://www.mylink.net/~jcgchcom/chamb.htm Jones County has a Chamber of Commerce site . Explore this, as it looks like there would be some helpful information. I understand that there is a Gray Motel, and a Days Inn that is nearing completion in Gray. Also a bed n breakfast located on the Jarrell Plantation about 15 - 20 miles from Gray but still in Jones County. If anyone has had personal experience in visiting Gray or in visiting the Courthouse, would you please tell us about it. Most courthouses in GA are very friendly and helpful, although most clerks really have very little interest in genealogy. I understand that the Tax Office does have maps, but I have been unable to reach them by phone....it was always busy. Gray is 16 miles north of Macon on US 129. It's about 18 miles southwest of Milledgeville. Our Probate Jude is Mike Green and his office is located in the Jones County Courthouse (There is also a Jones County Government Center 1 mile north of Gray on GA Hwy 11 that holds other government offices). 3. We were in Jones County in the summer of '98. We found the people in the courthouse to be most helpful..to the point where the clerk there phoned a friend to see if he could help me locate a Davis cemetery in the Hillsboro area. The courthouse in Gray is small but the people were extremely cordial. We stayed in Macon and it was a very short trip to Gray. In the library in Macon, we looked at maps of the area. It did have lot numbers but it was difficult to pinpoint a particular area. The people there were very patient and helpful. A beautiful city to boot.
