    3. Hi, Jane, You have posted 2 wills that I was interested in: Susannah Hodges and Dennis Bradley. There was another that interests me the most: Drury Hodges. Drury and Susannah came to Jones County from NC and were on record in Jones Co 1816-1818. Drury died in 1843, leaving a will; Dennis died in 1844, leaving a will;and Susannah died ~1846, leaving a will. I saw Drury's will one time somewhere, now I cannot remember the location, and I have been pulling my hair out searching for it. Thank you SOOOOO much for the work you are doing. Betty.

Would love to see some of the rest of you fill up the message boards with all kinds of goodies such as obits, land records, etc. etc. in order to make this county more complete. Hope it won't be too long before the "B" will book will be going up and any updates on those already posted. With all of us working together, we should be able to complete a better picture of our ancestors past. Do hope you found something useful. Jane

    3. The Macon Visitor's Bureau has an accomodation (lodging) page that may help visitors locate a nice place to stay at a reasonable rate. There are several popular motels on Riverside Drive north of where College Street intersects. Try this site. http://www.maconga.org/search-form.php3 If you have difficulty accessing the link, go to www.maconga.org and follow the accomodations link. 3. I live now in Gray, just northeast of Macon, but I was raised in Macon and know the area well. There is a nice B&B called the 1842 Inn, on College St., which is a block up front where the library sits on the corner of College and Washington St. But it's not inexpensive. Their telephone number is (912) 741-1842. The Days Inn North, is not too inconvenient. Their number is (912) 745-8521. 3. Barbara Shore just shared this information with the Bibb County List... For information on the Washington Library in Macon, go to; http://www.co.bibb.ga.us/library/ Click on "Genealogy and History Room" ====== If you're planning a trip to that section of Georgia, for sure, allow some time to research in this library. The web site gives information about the Library and a list (generic - not specific) of what they have there....but you'll get an idea of how much material they have. I was amazed at their microfilm readers.....all electric and printers! I've never seen such a wonderful collection. The staff is so helpful, and you're likely to meet up with some other researchers to share information with too. They don't except e-mail queries, but there is a mailing address and they will help you out that way. On our Georgia Military page, we have the announcement that the Librarians will even do Pension Searches for you (Civil War) and print them off from the microfilm and mail them to you... http://www.rootsweb.com/~gagenweb/records/military.htm Click on Civil War and then Pensions.... 3. The two terms, "consort" and "relict" were often used to describe women. Some have misinterpreted the terms to mean that the parties were not legally married but that is incorrect. Benjamin and Mariah Askew were married in Baldwin County, Georgia on January 30, 1823. "Consort" was used when the wife died before the husband. "Relict" was used as we use the term widow; when the wife survived the husband. In this particular case it indicates that Mariah Askew died after her husband. But what does it mean that she is > a "Relict of Benjamin Askew"? > > Mitzi
