In the discussions about the pension records from NARA, I was unclear about the contents of the records being discussed. Does "the whole pension record" of 125-135 pages mean for a specific state or region or the whole country for a specific time or what??? Some of you probably know this but I don't and would like to know. It seams that if one of us purchase a record, then all of us can use that record if we share, thus reducing costs. Joe
Well, obviously it didn't work. It worked when I sent it to myself. I guess I still need help. Charles

I am looking for any information on John Matthew Martin of Jones Co. He married Clarantine Alexander. Their son Brantley Jefferson Martin was born in Jones Co. 11/4/1864. Any information would be greatly appreciated Thank you, Dennis Martin [email protected]
I need someone's help who would be able to go to the Courthouse in Jones County and help me complete the 1816 Tax List. I have the NAMES, but this is not as helpful as adding the information about the waterway, land owned, slaves owned. I can send you the names which would make it easier for your to work with. I could just mail it to you in "chart" form, and you could do it all by hand, and then I could type it. We don't need to include everything that is listed on the charts, but it would be of help to include MORE than just the names. I had thought this Tax List would be on the microfilm that I'm working on, but somehow it missed it. I'm sure the Atlanta Archives probably does have it on microfilm though. If someone would volunteer to help me with this, I would be very appreciative. I'm working on the 1818 and also have the 1811. Thanks.... Virginia
I recently inquired of the Washington Library in Macon about the availability of an index for the History of Jones Co. I received it yesterday. The cost is $25.00 including shipping. I would estimate that it is at least 100 copied pages. I had asked about the possibility of scanning it and putting it on this list and the librarian wrote that we could, if we give the proper credit to the library. Their address is: Washington Memorial Library 1160 Washington Avenue Macon, GA 31201ll-17990 Phone 912 744 0821 The genealogy librarian's name is: Muriel Y McDowell Charles Middlebrooks
Asa E Ernest married (1) Jane Carson in 1821, and (2) Julia Kent in 1833. He purchased property in Alabama during these years along with in-laws from both families In some of my research, I found him listed as a judge. He apparently continued to live in the Bibb/Jones Co area during most of his life. Is there anyone on this who can share more info about him? I welcome all and any info, but am concentrating more on occupation and forebears here. Jennifer Sherwood Braswell [email protected]

Dear Researchers: If any of you have ancestors that went to East Alabama, some of them may be buried in this cemetery. Those of you who are related to the FEAGIN's, PRUETT's, or WILLIAMSON's, go to this website to see if they are buried there. Many graves showing births in the 1780's. This cemetery is in danger of being no more. If any of you have relatives in Bullock county, please let them know about this horrible situation. The website for the Fellowship Cemetery in Midway, Bullock Co., AL is http://www.intersurf.com/~johnjanr/bcemfell.htm E-mail me privately if you think you can help. Thanks. William Williams d. in Barbour County, AL, in NOV 1846. His wife's name was Elizabeth (-?-). With several children, William migrated from NC about 1803, to Jones Co.(?), GA, then moved on around 1817 to the area of the Mississippi Territory that would become Henry Co., AL, in 1819. There were eleven children total, but Elizabeth may have been William's second or third wife. Does anyone know anything about William and Elizabeth? Where in NC? Parents? Braddock Williams, born ca. 1798, in NC, was one of William's sons. He married Sarah D. Williams on 22 DEC 1822, in Henry County, AL. She was born ca. 1803, in GA. Braddock appears in the Walton County List of Florida Voters in Their First Statewide Election, May 26, 1845. He served as Keeper of Cape St. George Lighthouse, FL, and Keeper of Cape San Blas Lighthouse, FL. His service began 23 FEB 1854 and continued until his resignation from the U.S. Lighthouse Service on 13 JAN 1879. Does anyone know anything about Sarah D.? According to a census report, her parents were Virginians. Thanks. I had my first experience with a Jones County Tax List today---1818 This is what is tells: Name polls slaves Land/acre Quality/land counties Grantees Watercourse Adjoiners $ cents tax A poll was all free white males over 21. Grantee (I assume) is the name of the original land owner/grantee from State of Georgia Pleasure wheels (buggies or vehicles not necessary for farm work) The list is divided into Captain Districts....(but I'm not sure where these were exactly, but we are working on this) This is hard to convey without columns, but hope you can translate it. Captain Floyd's District James Commander 1-0 101 2 Jones Linar Wolf Creek Mitchell $.56 5 ½ {This means James Commander has ONE poll, 0 slaves. Owned 101 acres of 2nd quality land in Jones County.
