Hi Everyone....thought I'd repost my surnames thinking that since it's been a while we may have some new people who may be familiar with my lines. (My fingers are crossed....:o)). I am researching primarily the Godard family beginning (in Jones County) with Daniel Godard (1793-1877). His father was Frederick Godard (born c. 1767 in NC). Daniel had siblings: James Godard, Joel Godard, Simon Godard, all of Jones County, GA. Daniel married Elizabeth Rogers (her father John? Rogers) in August of 1819 in Jones County. They had four children I am aware of: Henry Godard, Franklin Godard, Frederick R. Godard (1820-1864/5 and married to Elizabeth Ann Thornton) and Malinda Ardecia Godard (married to Joseph Green English). Daniel served in the 4th Reg. (Booth's) for the War of 1812 out of Ft. Hawkins in Jones County. He moved his family sometime during the 1820's to Monroe County (an area now located in located in Lamar County, GA). He was a preacher at Union Primitive Baptist Church along with his cousin, Joseph Godard. Some other names are: Daniel Godard (1843-1910 and married to Mary Jane Bloodworth and daughter of Hiram Bonaparte Bloodworth); Jefferson Bonaparte Godard (1867-1936 and married to Annie Daisy Evans). I have plenty of information on all the above mentioned family lines and would be more than happy to exchange information. I have wills, war records, applications and claims to the Southern Claims Commission, etc. Naturally I have a few "holes" in my information and so I would love to make contact with anyone researching any of these lines. I have maternal ancestral information as well (with the exception of Elizabeth Rogers) and would be happy to share. Thanks for reading.......Mary Goddard Augusta, GA Researching: Godard, Rogers, Thornton, Bloodworth, Carden and Evans in GA (primarily Jones, Monroe, Lamar and Pike Counties).
Gene, Thanks for the list. Can you shed more light upon the slaves listed by first names only? Are they enumerated after/besides their masters? Family names would help us to match. Sylvia Ryce Cornell

New Hope (Caney Creek) Primitive Baptist Church, Jones County, Georgia New Hope Baptist Church was constituted on 6 February 1813 on Caney Creek in Jones County, Georgia. The Presbytery at constitution meeting were brothren Joel Willis, Abraham Brown, and William Jones. John Bayne served as constitution clerk. The following membership roll was copied from the original Minutes of the church on 16 May 1977. These original minutes are in possession of Mr. Willie Jarrell, Jarrell Plantation, Jones County, Georgia. The church is still in operation and stands about three miles northeast of Dames Ferry. Mr. Jarrell also has later membership rolls. John Kelley Sarah Patterson Isham Brooks Mark Patterson Elizabeth Lee Winney Short Bryan Lee Lucy Parker Catharine Graves ? Daniel Parker Sarah Mitchell Hannah Kelley William Brooks Agnes Brooks Jane Jacob Henry Mitchell The following persons came into New Hope Baptist Church during 1813-1846. They are listed here as in the original membership list, thus are in the order in which they were received. The membership turn over was rapid. Most who came in left within a few months or years. This was due to the fast immigration of people westward at that time. It does not appear that there were more than fourty members of the church at any particular time. For the most part these people all have dimissed written beside their names. A few had deceased written after their names. Those so listed are recorded as being deceased in this copy. About a month ago, my husband and I talked to the ranger at the Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge about any Middlebrooks' or Mathis' that might be buried on their forest land. He graciously gave us all the names he had. Using a natural cleaner (wet oak leaves) on the stone, we were able to make out all the inscription on a particular grave. I would like to make a correction on one of the graves listed in Volume 00 : issue 66. The person is in Map K, Compartment 19. Ann S. Middlebrooks 1820 - 1887 should be: A. J. Middlebrooks May 8, 1820 Mar 21, 1887 Age 66 10 mos 15 dys Footstone - A. J. M. Masonic emblem at top Other Middlebrooks' located in Piedmont are in Compartment 3 located one half mile from entrance to 2A on left. We have not had a chance to visit this cemetery. Copied from the sheet we were given are: Middlebrooks "They have lived in the hearts of those who know them best; 1 slab -W.P.M. having finished life's duties, they now sweetly rest." Elizabeth H. Middlebrooks Joseph A. Middlebrooks Slab covered Born Sept. 2, 1824 Born Jan. 11, 1851 baby's grave Died March 12, 1901 Died Jul. 2, 1872 Williamson P. Middlebrooks Outside fence: Little Frank, son of R.L. and Born Aug. 17, 1822 Emma L. Cheek Died Aug. 21, 1892 Born Feb. 6, 1892 Died May 31, 1896 2 small slabs - baby graves "Darling we miss thee" (This baby is probably related to Middlebrooks')
Virginia The correct name for the Piedmont Nature Preserve is Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge. Dianne Is anyone working a Mathis or Middlebrooks line from Hancock, Jones, Jasper, and/or Putnam County? I have hit a brick wall. Thanks. Dianne
I just received my 2000 census and let me tell you......the thing is 38 pages long! I have 6 people in my household that I have to go through and fill out all sorts of information on. Whew! I've already run out of ink in one pen. LOL! Am I one of the "priviledged few" or is everyone's that long? Kathy in FL [email protected]
The Central Georgia Genealogical Society (CGGS) proudly announces the commencement of a major book compiling project that will culminate into a publication entitled " THE HERITAGE OF HOUSTON CO, GEORGIA" The primary focus of this publication will be to provide a history of the families of Houston County, and especially the pioneers of this area. The Majority of the book will consist of family information (500-word sketches) and one photo provided by the descendants of these Houston County families. Although there have been previous publication about the history of Houston County, none have covered the in-depth genealogical information as this book will. Houston County was established in 1821, and originally contained portions of land that is now in Peach, Macon, Bibb, Upson and other surrounding counties.
