    3. Posted on: Jones County, Ga Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Jones?read=813 Surname: BROOKS ------------------------- Donna, I have seen on the 1817, 1818-1819 Jones Co. tax list that John Brooks is always close to Isham Brooks. Well, there seemed to be two John Brooks, the other one close to William Brooks in 1817 and Charles H. Brooks in 1818-1819. I am looking for information about Robert and Matthew Brooks who appear on the 1817 tax list and Arthur Brooks who entered the 1820 Land Lottery with his residence listed as Jones Co. If he is the Arthur Brooks I think he is,he isn't on the tax lists, because he was 88 years old in 1820. I think Robert and Matthew might be his sons.

    2. Darleen C. Miller
    3. I am new to the list. My only Jones Co. surnames are COOK and DYKES/DIKES. My gggg grandfather is John COOK, b. abt 1800-1810, d. between 1834-1840. He was married to Sarah DYKES, b. abt 1810, d. aft. 1860. I have very little information on these ancestors. I do not know where they were born or where they lived before Jones Co. The earliest record I have on them is the 1830 Jones Co. census. They had several children, but I only have the names of the two youngest, Adelaide and Melvina R. Adelaide Cook, b. abt 1832, Jones Co.; d. bef 5-8-1876, probably in Jasper Co.; m. 12-18-1851, Wade B. GOOLSBY, Jr. of Jasper Co., b. 8-1-1829, d. aft 1-8-1907. Their son, Richard H. GOOLSBY, is my ggg grandfather. Melvina R. Cook, b. abt 1834, Jones Co.; m. 5-8-1876, Wade B. GOOLSBY, Jr. of Jasper Co., GA. There was also a Joshua DIKES living in Jones Co. in 1830, b. abt. 1790-1800. Possibly some relation to Sarah DYKES? Any information on any of these families would be greatly appreciated. 2. Crilley
    3. I'm interested in the history of covered graves. We have on-line a photo of two in Taylor County http://www.rootsweb.com/~gataylor/taycem.htm Click on Covered Graves These are at Union Methodist - Hays Campground Cemetery. Mr. John Adams, editor of the Taylor Tracer, provided these photos and also gave the theory that due to the sandy soil in that part of Georgia, the covered graves were to prevent erosion of the graves themselves, as well as to designate family plots. I just wondered if anyone knew of other history and if they can be found in other counties. Virginia
