    1. [GAJEFFER-L] Re: LEWIS - ROGERS
    2. In a message dated 98-02-16 09:36:15 EST, you write: << Subj: LEWIS - ROGERS Date: 98-02-16 09:36:15 EST From: [email protected] (Miriam Brown) To: [email protected] I would like any information on the LEWIS family of Burke and Jefferson Counties. I have a RICHARD LEWIS b. @1770-75 who mar. ELIZABETH ROGERS b. 1775 in South Carolina. I believe RICHARD LEWIS to have been born in Ga., and from the same family as Burke County LEWISES, He was in Jefferson County in 1805 and won land in the l805 LL in Wilkinson County. He and ELIZABETH ROGERS were mar. prior to 1804 because they had a son THOMAS, b. 1804 supposedly in Green County. By 1806 he had come to Wilkinson County to live. ELIZABETH ROGERS had brothers BENJAMIN, EPHRIM, and JAMES ROGERS, and sisters,FANNIE ROGERS MCELROY, and MARY(POLLY) ROGERS COLEMAN, the COLEMANS were in Burke Co. and later (1814) Jasper Co., by 1820 they moved to Dallas Co. Ala. RICHARD LEWIS had brothers THOMAS, who was in Wilkinson Co. in 1816, later moved, possibly JOHN LEWIS, and a sister who mar. a Grice. These men were the sons of a THOMAS LEWIS, who was supposed to have remarried and this caused the boys to leave. On the 1805 tax list RICHARD LEWIS was close to all the other LEWISES, his father was supposed to have been a member of the General Assembly (some say NC) which I think is wrong, I think it was in Georgia. I have done work on all the LEWISES in this area but cannot prove where my RICHARD goes, neither do I know the parents of the ROGERS.(RODGERS). Please let ne hear from someone who works on LEWIS or ROGERS, and lets compair notes. Thanks, Miriam M. Brown. >>
