    3. Hi Folks, My ggg-grandfather was Harbord (var. sp.) SMITH who married Sarah DUPREE in Jefferson County.. On the 1820 Jefferson County census, Harbord and Sarah have five sons and live two numbers down from Herod Dupree. On the other side of Harbord are Sarah Smith (mother?), Burnet Smith (brother?) and a couple of COOK families. Harbord left Sarah after their seventh son was born and ran off with a Cook woman. Sarah and the Duprees moved on to Talbot and then Sumter Counties. According to later census information (from son, Thomas), both Harbord Smith and Sarah Dupree were born in VA. Other surnames on the Jefferson County 1820 census that I am researching include SANDEFUR and TRULUCK. Both surnames have various spellings. Mitzi

    3. Hi, I have some very interesting links in all of this. Jordan and Brittan are given names in lots of families that float out of eastern NC into GA and later, MS. A Gideon SMITH married a Sarah LANE and I do not know who the parents were of Sarah. What I have on their children is listed below but I do not know how accurate it is. Gideon was born in Johnston County, NC ABT 1763 and died in Amite County, MS in 1811. I also know some of the TARVERS went to Amite County, MS so this smells to be part of the same overall family. This Gideon SMITH bunch ties right back to the WHITFIELDS of Smithfield, Johnston County, North Carolina. because Gideon's grandfather John SMITH II married Elizabeth WHITFIELD, d/o Matthew WHITFIELD II and Pricilla Ann LAWRENCE of Bertie County, North Carolina. There are three families that I call the Three Musketeers of Eastern NC. They are the WHITFIELDS, the SMITHS and the BRYANS. My 2nd GGF was Robert C. DANIEL (ABT 1765-AFT 1830) of Green County, NC, later of Burke County, GA. He married Penelope LANE (1773-1846), d/o Capt. Isham LANE (ABt 1730-1801) and, I think, a BRYAN. Regardless, they had a son, Bryan LANE. Bryan b. ABT 1752 in Dobbs County, NC married a THOMPSON. I also think Isham and Levin LANE of Jones County, NC were either brothers or first cousins, brothers I think and they probably married sisters. I also feel a BEASLEY family is in this equation, too, since a Bryan BEASLEY was part of a joint-stock company headed by my GGF, Robert W. DANIEL (1809-1865) of Jefferson County, GA in the 1850's, along with others that I know were "family." .Robert Williams DANIEL was a son of Robert C. and Penelope Lane DANIEL of Burke County, GA, formerly of Green County, NC. They moved to Burke in 1812 from Green. For those of you who know NC history, Johnston County was the parent county of Green so this all matches. I also know that Etheldred SMITH and his son, Noah SMITH, Sr., as well as Noah's brother, Jordan SMITH, also followed or led the DANIELS to the Richmond County, GA area. This whole bunch points back into the IOW/Surry County, VA area and it looks like these relationships were of long standing. I think the LANES were out of the LANE and ISHAM connections in VA. The probably tie into the LANIERS and their connections as well as other early families in the Chowan County, NC area. I cannot tell you who the father of Robert C. DANIEL was nor confirm who the parents of Capt. Isham LANE were but we know the LANES were of Edgecombe and before that, probably Surry are of VA. Regardless, I think RCD was related to the DANIELS in Northampton, Edgecombe, Tyrrell and Pitt County, NC. <<< Children Sarah SMITH b: 13 Mar 1793 in Hawkins County, Tenn.
