Dawn, Well, I think Martha PARTIN of Crawford County, GA was his first wife and she died ABT 1850 so that matches up. Hinson QUINNEY was born ABT 1805 and his wife, Mahala MARSHALL was born 1810, so their child, Nancy, would have been born ABt 1830 and she could have married John after Martha died. Let's say ABT 1855. Have you ever gotten any more on the MARSHALLS? The PERRYS and the MARSHALLS must have been pretty close even before the marriage of John PERRY (1799-1863) to Nancy QUINNEY because John's sister Ann Perry DANIEL (1809-1861) was the co-executor along with her husband, James Lane DANIEL (1814-1857), of the will of Mahala's grandmother, Ann MARSHALL (ABT 1770-1845), widow of Joseph MARSHALL, Sr. (ABT 1765-ABT 1820) of Jefferson County, GA. I do feel that Noah SMITH of Jefferson County, GA who was married to Wylanty WAY was related in some way to Rev. Jordan SMITH or his wife, Mary GAINER, because Joseph and Rev. SMITH were living side by side in 1820 in Jefferson County, GA. Later, Rev. SMITH moved to Washington County, GA. All of these SMITHS may have also been related, in some way, to Colby SMITH and Rebecca Ann HENRY, also of Washington County, GA because I have an L. C. SMITH that married Julia R. DANIEL (b. ABT 1842) in 1859. She was the daughter of Robert W. DANIEL, my GGF, but by a different wife. In 1860, this, some say Luther (Lewis is also a possibility) C. SMITH, age 24, Noah SMITH, age 42 and Robert W. DANIEL age 51 are living side by side in Bethany, Jefferson County, GA -- actually the 83rd MD. I am still trying to find that WILCOX/WILCOXEN that married Julia R.'s sister, Mary Green DANIEL who was born ABT 1848. We know Mary was married by 1867 when her father's will was probated but I do not know what happened to either of these two girls, after 1867. I also do not know what happened to their brother, James R. DANIEL born 1850. I think he married a Sarah Julia MURPHY ABT 1871 but she and her daughter died in 1874 and I do not know what happened to him, afterwards. I think this MURPHY girl was daughter of a C. M. and G.D.A. Murphy she is buried with these Murphys in Lowry Cemetery, Jefferson County, GA. However, I do not know what happened to James R. DANIEL. John R. John, Colsby Smith is my fourth great-grandfather and this line has been extensively documented from his generation. Unless somebody has made a connection that I haven't seen, neither Noah nor Jordan Smith is in the Colsby Smith line. One of Colsby's sons, Micajah, had a son named David but I do not have any more info on him at the moment. Micajah was born 1786 Chatham Co., NC and married Elizabeth Duty. I am interested in the David T. Smith of Jefferson Co. since he married Frances Ross, sister to my third great-grandfather, Jonathan Ross (now you know where one of David's son's name came from). Dawn, That Joseph MARSHALL, Jr. their son. He was married to Lucy RAIFORD and Sarah GIBSON. He died on 8 Mar 1852 in Jefferson County, GA Joseph, Jr. may have been married three times. First to UNK, second to Lucy RAIFORD and third to Sarah GIBSON and the UNK was the mother of Mahala who married Hinson QUINNEY. We know his mother died in 1845 and his father AFT 1820. I think the SMITHS play into this MARSHALL family, in some way because Joseph, Sr. was living right next to Rev. Jordan SMITH in JC in 1820. I think Joseph married Sarah GIBSON as a December marriage and probably because she had some money. <grin> That's the way a lot of this worked back then but I do not think she was the mother of Mahala MARSHALL -- too old and she did not marry him in a time frame to be Mahaha's mother. I still have some questions on this family but it is getting clearer. Also note, my GGF, Robert Williams DANIEL (1809-1865) and his younger brother, James Lane DANIEL (1814-1857) were living right next to Joseph MARSHALL, Jr. (ABT 1785-1852) in 1850. Did I tell you that we had added one more child to the family of Robert C. DANIEL and Penelope LANE -- the parents of these two boys? Chesley C. DANIEL (ABT 1815-AFT 1850) who married an Anne, and who signed RWD's 1841 marriage bond to Julia in Richmond County, GA was his brother. This from the notes of Hugh Buckner JOHNSTON. Chesley and Anne stayed back in the 65th MD of Burke County, GA and was living probably on the old DANIEL home place, there. <<< 1850 Jefferson County, GA census, 48Th District, page 170 612- MARSHALL, Joseph, head, age 65, male, $3000, born Jefferson County, GA 612- MARSHALL, Sarah, female, age 80, born Jefferson County, GA >>>.
