Is there anywhere a record of the Queensboro Settlement. My ancestor, John Martin, was one of the settlers. Queensboro was basically located in what is now the outskirts of Louisville. There is a book on the early settlers of Queensboro but I do not have a copy of it.... John R. There was a book written about Queensboro titled "Queensborough, The Irish Town and Its Citizens" by Loris D. Cofer. It is copyrighted in May, 1977. I got a copy from the Jefferson County Library in Louisville, GA. You could prabably contact them and get on. The one that I have is a paperback and as I recall, it only cost $10.00. It has a lot of great information. Page 56 Does list a John Martin Sr., & JR. It says that Sr. came on the ship Hopewell and received 400 acres 6/27/1769. Also a will in 1810 mentioning his wife Elizabeth. Hope this helps. Hello Diana, I, too, follow things Jefferson Co., mainly as they relate to my Stapleton clan. I also do lookups for others in the Fletcher book about the Beatys, Peels, and Stapletons. My request is that you do a lookup for me in your "Queensbury, The Irish Town and its Citizens". It is possible that Stapletons, particularly my main-man of Jefferson Co., George (Lawson) Stapleton and/or his wife Margarett Downer, and her aunt/relative Mary Connell and Daniel Connell could be mentioned or included in the book. George was in Jefferson County about 1777 and returned after the war (1783) with bride. Annother name would be Raney/Rannie. If a worthy YES, I will arrange to puchase the book if still available. I will sincerely appreciate your taking time for my request.
