In the 1980 publication of "Tombstoning: A Beginning," Jefferson County, Georgia Tombstone Inscriptions, the description of Parker Methodist Cemetery notes 28 unmarked graves and two illegible tombstones. William and Harriet are not listed in this book. How long ago did they die? Farrow Davis Scruggs were buried in the Parker's Methodist Cemetery. On the Jefferson County, GA Website I found a list of Parker's Methodist Cemetery Inscriptions but while there were Scruss's on the list, William & Harriet were not listed. How could I find out if they are actually buried there? Lynn Farrer mlFarrer@swbell.net
Tom, I found the information at FamilySearch.org; William Scruggs: b. 20 NOV 1826, Jefferson, GA; d. 22 JUN 1897, Jefferson, GA; bur. 23 JUN 1897, Parker's Cem, Jefferson, GA. Harriet Scruggs: b. 30 OCT 1829, Jefferson, GA; d. 15 NOV 1893, Jefferson, GA; bur. 16 NOV 1893, Parker's Cem, Jefferson, GA. I have not been able to find a source for the information or confirmation. William's middle name is Gross and Harriet's middle initial is P. According to Harriet Farrow/Farrer father's family bible she was actually born 20 Nov 1827 in Jefferson County, GA. Harriet 1st married Isaac B. Davis on 16 Feb 1851, Jefferson County, GA. Their children were: Hezakiah 'Kirah' Davis, b. abt 1851; Amberson Davis b. abt 1853; and Celestia "Lisa" Davis Smith. Isaac died 21 Mar 1856 in Jefferson, GA. Harriet then married William Gross Scruggs between Mar 1856 and Dec 1858, no marriage license has been found. Their children were: Laura A. Elizabeth Scruggs Farrer, b. 25 Jul 1858; James Monroe 'Nun' Scruggs, b. 23 May 1859; John D. Scruggs, b. 23 May 1862; Mary J. A. 'May' Scruggs Farrer, b. Mar 1865; Sarah Scruggs, b. Abt 1869; and Anna Scruggs Hall, b. 10 Dec 1864. I have not been able to find either Wm or Harriet in the 1900 census so I assume they died before then. William was a Jefferson County land owner and should have had a Will. I was there once years ago and I didn't find a Will for Harriet or William but I didn't have a time range to look for either. Harriet is the sister of my 2nd Great Grandfather Aquilla M. Farrow/Farrer: b. 10 Apr 1834 in Jefferson, GA; d. 10 Mar 1916 near Bartow, Jefferson, GA, bur. Moxley Baptist Church Cemetery, Jefferson, GA. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
