    3. Good Morning, There is a connection in Morgan County, GA that I cannot figure out and I will almost bet money the connection goes back to Jefferson, Emanuel or Washington County, GA. John DURDEN born ABT 1830 was a state representative who had large land holding (several or more sections in LD 19) in the SW portion of Morgan County, GA. His home place was located in the Reese Community, just north of Shady Dale, Jasper County, GA. Anyway, John DURDEN got into financial problems after the Civil War, as many folks did, went bankrupt in 1873 and his property was sold on the court house square in Madison, Morgan County, GA. This sale was handled by one of the FOSTER boys, whose father, the Hon. Albert Gallatin FOSTER, Esq. was the US Bankruptcy Judge. The FOSTERS, who were originally from Hancock County, GA, and the RICHTERS were close family friends, so all of this was not at what we now call "arms length." Anyway, guess who stepped in at this 1873 sale and loaned John DURDEN the money to keep his farm? Mrs. John C. RICHTER, Sr, the former Alice Elizabeth DANIEL (1854-1924) of Jefferson County, GA. Guess who later ended up with this land after the death of DURDEN? If you said, my grandmother, Mrs. Alice RICHTER, then you are correct. So, there must be some family connection between John DURDEN of Morgan County, GA and Alice Elizabeth DANIEL of Jefferson County but I have no idea what this family connection might be. I do know the DURDENS (or DURDENO) lived in the Pitt and Beaufort County, NC areas at one time and were close, if not collateral, with some of ancestors of Alice DANIEL. I also know these same DURDENS later migrated to east central GA and Morgan County, GA, but I do not know what the family connection might have been but I will bet there was one. If you have any thoughts, let me know. Thanks..... John R. Clarke Thomasville, GA
