    3. Well, Dorothy, my dear -- that's what I am thinking. One of the first bits of information I got when I started researching my family over 10 years ago was from the MURPHEYS. The problem is -- it now appears to be completely wrong. Lucy GRAY of Pensacola, FL is one of my very good friends and she descends from William DANIEL who was married to a Betsy WATTS and this is the bunch that moved to Jackson County, FL in the 1825 time frame. My bet is MS Lucy's bunch are related to my DANIEL bunch. In fact I think her William DANIEL born ABT 1760 is an older brother of my Robert C. DANIEL (ABt 1765-AFT 1830) who moved to Burke County, GA from Greene County, NC in 1812. In the company of him was probably Jordan SMITH, Noah SMITH, some of the TARVERS, maybe a MARSHALL family, the WISES, maybe the CASONS, WATTS, BRETTS, COLLINS and probably a few more that I have forgotten to add in this list. From what I know now, it is starting to make sense. I also think the MURPHEYS of Richmond County, GA have really cobbled up the MURPHEYS. My primary interest in Jefferson County, GA is my GGF, Robert W. DANIEL, Esq. (1809-1865) and his younger brother, James L. DANIEL (1814-1857). Robert married a bunch of times but the last was to my GGM, Mary Jane RENEAU in JC in 1852. James married Mary MURPHEY, d/o Rev. Nicholas MURPHEY and Nancy Ann COLLINS, d/o John and Martha BRETT. John COLLINS family is from Beaufort County, NC. I know where the are from. I also think his brother was a Levin COLLINS. There are several other families involved in all of this. Robert and James older sister, Amelia DANIEL (1795-1860) married William P. TAYLOR and they moved from Burke to near Riddleville, Washington County, GA. They had several boys and one was name, Levin, and one of their boys married a BRYAN. BRYAN is a key name in this family and that rolls back to Dobbs County, NC. The parents of Robert, James and Amelia DANIEL were a Robert C. DANIEL and his wife, Penelope LANE (1773-1846). They moved from Greene (formerly Dobbs) County, NC to the 65th MD of Burke County, GA in 1812, according to Penelope's 1846 obit published in the Southern Christian Advocate. Penelope's parents were Capt. Isham LANE (ABT 1730-1801) of Greene County, NC and "I think," Lucretia GRAY, d/o John GRAY, Sr. and Ann BRYAN of Lenoir County, NC. I think both Robert C. and William DANIEL were grandchildren of John CASON (ABT 1728-1802/1816) and his wife, Eleanor PICKETT or PINKETT. However, I do not know who their father was. I think either Capt. Robert Lanier DANIEL (1718-1794) of Pitt County, NC or Robert DANIEL (1718-AFT 1782) of Martin County, NC. I do not know which but I think both the CANNONS and CASONS play into whichever DANIEL family it was. We already know that Lucy's DANIEL family descends from the IOW DANIEL family and my DNA test should come in within a week or so and I will bet they match. Most, if not all of this bunch, has big ties back into IOW and Surry County, VA however most of them later moved down to Tyrrell, Pitt, Bertie, Johnston, which later formed Dobbs and Greene, and Wayne County, NC. I just cannot get a good feel for them because there is so much bad information out there. As I stated in my previous post, I never could figure out the close relationship between Rev. Nicholas MURPHEY and the two PIERCE boys, also Methodist ministers. I have always felt this relationship had to extend back into NC and was not just limited to their common religion. BTW, the family of both Lovic and Reddick PIERCE rolls right back into this same group in NC and I will bet money so does Rev. Nicholas MURPHEY, regardless of what the MURPHEY family of Hephzibah says about this family. As for the SMITH family, Noah and Etheldred are living right next to Robert C. DANIEL in Greene County, NC in 1800. I also think Jordan is their brother because there is an Etheldred SMITH that dies in Jefferson County, GA and he has a son name, Jordan, and this Jordan is probably named for his uncle, Jordan SMITH. In 1860 a Noah SMITH is living right next to my GGF, Robert W. DANIEL, in Jefferson County, GA and my bet this Noah is related to this Etheldred SMITH who died in JC a few years earlier. I think this whole bunch we see in Jefferson, Washington and even Burke rolls right back into Pitt, Beaufort, Dobbs, Greene and Wayne County, NC. I just do not know how they fit together but I am getting a lot better feel to them....... John R.
