Hi, The Parker Cemetery Inscriptions are linked on the Jefferson County, GA US GENWEB website at http://ftp.rootsweb.com/~gajeffe2/ It is in the Archives > Cemetery page. Just click on Archives and then the Cemetery page and scroll down to Parker Memorial Methodist Church. I assume that is the one you are talking about and it has a description and location information on the top of the page. This information is also in the Jefferson County, GA archives. We already have a lot of information on this new Jefferson County website, so do not forget to add it to your Favorites by clicking on the Golden Key at the top of each page. John R. How do you get access to the Parker Methodist Cemetery list and does anyone know the background of this church? Jean (Parker)
Congratulations John, It is wonderful to have such a knowledgeable person in command. Just about all of my kin came out of the Louisville area and most of them are still there. Good Luck and God Bless.... Shirley Watkins Sanders
There was a cemetery book published by the Jefferson County Historical Society in 2002 titled 'Cemeteries of Jefferson County Georgia 1794 - 2000'. Joyce -----Original Message----- From: John R. Someone told me that William Gross Scruggs & wife Harriett P. Farrow Davis Scruggs were buried in the Parker's Methodist Cemetery. On the Jefferson County, GA Website I found a list of Parker's Methodist Cemetery Inscriptions but while there were Scruss's on the list, William & Harriet were not listed. How could I find out if they are actually buried there? Lynn Farrer mlFarrer@swbell.net

I was told that there is a project to index those buries in all Jefferson County Cemeteries. I have a whole family that I have never been able to find but one grave, some I know a death date and other I don't. All the dates of birth come from James H. and Mary A. Farrows family bible. James H. Farrow - Farrer He was in Louisville Dist in 1830 census, 1840 census 77th DISTRICT , and 1850 census 48th Dist. As per his estate records that never says when he died, his death was between 1852 & 1855. Catherine F. Farrow - born 24 Nov 1829, there was a female child her age in the Louisville Dist Jefferson County 1830 census but none later. Harriet P. Farrow Davis Scruggs, born 7 Feb 1832. There was a female child her age in the 1840 census 77th District. In the 1850 census 48th Dist she was born in Jefferson County. In 1851 she married Isaac B. Davis in Jefferson County, GA. Isaac died on 21 Mar 1856. She then married Jefferson County resident William G. Scruggs. I never found their marriage license but they were in the 1860 & 1870 77th District of Jefferson County Census, and in the 1880 census they were living in the 85th District of Jefferson County. I have not been able to find out when they died. I have an unconfirmed date of 9 Aug 1897 for William. I found if on Ficklin-Ficklen-Fickling Family Genealogy website, I sent an email to verify the source but I never got a resounce. The only grave I have found was for Aquilla M. Farrer born 10 Apr 1834 in Jefferson County GA. He left Jefferson County after the civil war. Found in DeKalb Co AL in 1880 and Bartow Co GA in 1900. Missing in 1910 census but receiving his Civil War Vets pension in Bartow County Ga until his death. I suspect he spent time living with different sons and nephews until his death. Died in 10 Mar 1916 at the home of nephew John D. Scruggs near Bartow, Jefferson Co and buried in Moxley Cemetary, Jefferson Co., GA, USA. I have not been able to find my GGGrandfathers obit. His obit read "On the 10th day of March, 1916. Mr Quilla Farrer. age eighty-seven years. He was living at the home of his son, Mr I. M. Farrer. He died of Bright's disease". I.M. was his nephew not son. Years ago I met Walter I. Farrer who was 8 when Aquilla died and he was sure Aquilla died at the home of his nephew, John D. Scruggs and he is buried in the John D. Scruggs family plot. Sarah E. Farrow was born in 19 Jun 1838 but died early as she was not found in the 1840 census. William J. Harrison Farrow Farrer - He was born in Jefferson County on 9 Oct 1840. He was in the 1850 census 48th Dist and 1860 census 77th Dist. He married Catherine E. Wasden in Jefferson County on 18 Apr 1861. As the youngest son he was the last to enlist in the 38th Ga Vol Inf. After being with the unit a brief time he came down with the measles and was furloughed. While at home in Jefferson Co he caught pneumonia and died on 20 Mar 1862. On the same date his daughter William Catherine Farrer was born. My most elusive ancestor was Aquilla Farrer's first wife Susan Berryhill born Oct 20 1853 Jefferson Co, Ga. I have never figured out who her father was. There aren't very many Berryhill candidates but her name never shows up with any of them. I have only found her in two records, her marriage licence dated 26 Oct 1856 and the 1860 77th District census. Then nothing; nothing before the marriage and nothing after the census. It is assumed she died in Jefferson County before the family moved on. Someone once told me a Mr. Gay bought a farm early in the 1900's that was known as the old Farrer place. If was in the first left corner NW of the Moses Chapel/Cemetery between Mayes Grove Church and Wrenn. Nearby and west of the farm is a Carson Cemetery, Burke Cemetery. A little farther away is the Boatwright Cem west of the Munin School. If it helps after they left Jefferson County the were members of the Methodist Church. I would not be surprised the find all but Harriet and Aquilla buried together. I hope they are in one of the cemeteries that have been indexed. Margie, No, I do not but the NC bunch that came into Pulaski and Dodge would be the place I would look. They changed their name to DANIELS, too. John DANIEL and Rebecca STEPHENS/STEVENS of Dodge is where I would look for this bunch. John R. According to a family bible my father has, my ggg-grandfather, James H. Farrow married Mary A. on 22 Jul. 1825. The marriage would have occurred in Burke or Jefferson counties. They had eight children: Garvin Hamilton, Catherine F, Harriet P, Aquilla M, Sarah E, William J. Harrison, and Eveline A. According to the 1850 census, all of James' children and wife Mary A. were born in Jefferson County, and James H. was born in Burke County. This might not be 100% correct. The 1832 Cherokee Land Lottery showed James H. Farrow in Burke County. Three of the eight children were born during or before 1832. James H. Farrow died intestate in Jefferson County GA between Feb 1st, 1852 and Oct 1854. His probate file did not give the date of death. Garvin was listed as the executor of the estate. A letter dated Oct 1854 says "letters of Administration be granted him, as soon as publication _______ _____ in terms of the law and as in duty bound..." I could not read the hand writing where the _____ was. There was a receipt of the estate paying for a credit purchase by James H. Farrow dated Feb 1st, 1852. In a form letter used to release Garvin Farrow from being the administrator, it said "it is further ordered that this citation be published in the Chronicle & Sentinel a gazette of this State for the space of six months." I am assuming the letter authorizing Garvin Farrow to be the Administrator may have also been posted for six months in the Chronicle & Sentinel also. I hope it states when James H. Farrow died. This may be as close as I come to an obituary for James. Any idea how I might find the newspaper posting for settling James Farrow/Farrer's estate.

Good Evening, I have the Jefferson County USGENWEB website up and running but not to the capabilities of my commercial websites because ROOTSWEB servers do not support Front Page Server Extensions or ASP but, at least, it is up and online, even though it still has more than a few incomplete pages. However, all of the material in the Jefferson County, Ga Archives is linked in the archives section of this website. I will gradually get other information online in the coming days so check back often. The URL is http://ftp.rootsweb.com/~gajeffe2/ And this website URL is also case sensitive so put it in, just like I entered it. John R. Clarke Thomasville, GA
I'm trying to find information on Mary Elizabeth Kilgore married to William Tennant Houston in 1981 or Ammie Lou Hadden married to Roger Sloan Attaway in Jefferson County 1920. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Margie
