I have always wondered why this sort of situation was accepted , I'm 55 and personally know of 2 families that lived this way , 1 man 2 women , separate houses and kids with both women knowing the other , they were all one happy family , and as far as I know he never cheated on the other , took care of them and never was unfaithful to them , unlike some I know ,,,lol Ann Bartlett Lee Can anyone shed any light on John Thomas Hadden Sr? I have him married to 2 women Molly Beasley in 1912 and mattie Amerson October. Between the two wifes he had 5 children born from Aug 1914 - 30 Oct 1923 with Molly and 8 with Mattie from Sep 1915 t0 Oct 1935. I received this info on marriages from a Truman Milwee and when I queried him on it, he asked the person who he received it from to try to clarify but no response was received. Could John have been a Mormon that believed in many wifes or is this 2 different persons? Any helkp appreciated. Thanks.

    3. Margie, I am very glad to finally see some activity on the Jefferson list. In the past when I got a message from the JEFFERSON Mailing List, I had pinch myself to remember which list this was, because the messages were so infrequent. <grin> However, what we need is more family information in the archives to prime the pump on this list. I will try to submit all of the DANIEL information I have to the JC Archives at the GA Genweb Project and hopefully others will do the same. The more stuff we have in the JC archives, the greater the number of folks who will subscribe to the Jefferson County Mailing list. The facts are, the more information we can provide, the more people that will visit our resources. In the "Field of Dreams" a voice kept telling Kevin Costner "If you build it, they will come." Well, if we build it, they will come, too. Not only will they come to our JC website but to our JC mailing list, as well. Not only will we get those whose families lived in Jefferson County but we will get folks from all the surrounding counties, as well. John R. I think the address for the cemetery is something like Springsong or something like that and apparentsly it no longer works. It always comes back. How else could I contact them? I have been trying for a couple of years to get this changed. I would appreciate some help. Jean

    3. Hi, If you are asking me to change that date, I cannot. That is not my material and I cannot change it even if I wanted to. I suggest contacting the person who transcribed that cemetery and asking them to change it and post their changes back to the Jefferson County, Archives. Their name and email address should be at the top of the transcription page. I do not know who transcribed the cemetery in question and you did not list a cemetery where this lady was buried but usually these folks just go row to row and write down what the tombstone says. At least, that is the way I do it. It is hard for me to see how they could have made a 40 year error in reading the inscription on the tombstone. I will also tell you there are a lot of our ancestors whose graves were in the area that became Ft. Stewart and they blew them to pieces for target practice in the 1940's, so we no longer have many of these graves on this military reservation. Also, some of the new "less than moral majority" in Wadley have turned over and defaced many of the grave stones in Bethany Cemetery in Wadley, where some of my DANIEL folks are buried. It would seem the Methodist Church in Wadley would monitor this cemetery and keep it up since this cemetery was once adjacent to their church before they moved it down town. After all, it was their church cemetery and most of their early members are buried there. John R. 3. Tom, I found the information at FamilySearch.org; William Scruggs: b. 20 NOV 1826, Jefferson, GA; d. 22 JUN 1897, Jefferson, GA; bur. 23 JUN 1897, Parker's Cem, Jefferson, GA. Harriet Scruggs: b. 30 OCT 1829, Jefferson, GA; d. 15 NOV 1893, Jefferson, GA; bur. 16 NOV 1893, Parker's Cem, Jefferson, GA. I have not been able to find a source for the information or confirmation. William's middle name is Gross and Harriet's middle initial is P. According to Harriet Farrow/Farrer father's family bible she was actually born 20 Nov 1827 in Jefferson County, GA. Harriet 1st married Isaac B. Davis on 16 Feb 1851, Jefferson County, GA. Their children were: Hezakiah 'Kirah' Davis, b. abt 1851; Amberson Davis b. abt 1853; and Celestia "Lisa" Davis Smith. Isaac died 21 Mar 1856 in Jefferson, GA. Harriet then married William Gross Scruggs between Mar 1856 and Dec 1858, no marriage license has been found. Their children were: Laura A. Elizabeth Scruggs Farrer, b. 25 Jul 1858; James Monroe 'Nun' Scruggs, b. 23 May 1859; John D. Scruggs, b. 23 May 1862; Mary J. A. 'May' Scruggs Farrer, b. Mar 1865; Sarah Scruggs, b. Abt 1869; and Anna Scruggs Hall, b. 10 Dec 1864. I have not been able to find either Wm or Harriet in the 1900 census so I assume they died before then. William was a Jefferson County land owner and should have had a Will. I was there once years ago and I didn't find a Will for Harriet or William but I didn't have a time range to look for either. Harriet is the sister of my 2nd Great Grandfather Aquilla M. Farrow/Farrer: b. 10 Apr 1834 in Jefferson, GA; d. 10 Mar 1916 near Bartow, Jefferson, GA, bur. Moxley Baptist Church Cemetery, Jefferson, GA. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
