    3. Please tell me if the Hannah Jennings family had in PUCKETT connections, if so they are in my line. My line from Barnwell, SC is Jennings, Boysworth, Turner, Puckett, Chapman and Jones. 3. This may be part of the DUNCAN family that migrated from Fauquier County., VA to Barnwell County, SC. (Joseph DUNCAN and Hannah JENNINGS family) There in lies one of the problems I have always faced in figuring out this DANIEL family. Into Robert W. DANIEL (1809-1865) flows his 4th wife, Mary Jane RENEAU. This was not a proximity marriage because she lived in Oxford, Newton County, GA in 1852 when she married Robert. It is quite a ways from Oxford to Bethany, even in those days. Which means this was some type of family marriage. So, where does she come from and where did he come from? Her RENEAU family rolls out of Frederick County, VA and Somerset County, MD to eastern TN and then on to GA where he father was a Presiding Elder in the ME Church. She was tied to a lot of Upper Neck folks in NE Virginia, as well as across the border in southern PA and MD. So, where did his DANIEL bunch come from? They came from eastern NC in the Pitt, Martin, Bertie, Edgecombe, Greene and Wayne County, NC area, primarily Dobbs, Greene and Wayne. I also think the LANE family which was tied to this DANIEL family in Dobbs and Greene County, NC were also from the Somerset County, MD. The CASONS and CANNONS may also play a part in this DANIEL family, too, as well as the GRAYS, BRYANS and WHITFIELDS. John R. 3. John, Thank you for this very interesting information. It appears that your Robert Daniel and my Alex DANIELS could be related in some way. I have never been able to find anything at all about Alex Daniels. It may be that he was actually an Allen or Alen Daniel This Alexander O'DANIEL from Duplin County, NC is another clue for me, however. I thought that I might be able to follow up on some of the children of Nancy WHITAKER and Alex Daniels, but have reached a dead end on them as well. Elizaeth Daniels, their first child married a DUNCAN, as did their daughter Ascenith. Daughter Louisa married a Dr. WESTBROOK, Daughter Martha married a JENKINS, and I have no information on who Dr. Benjamin Daniels, their son, married. My ancestor, Eli Daniel Whitaker, son of Col. Benjamin, married first Amelia Jane McCULLARS in Jefferson County. They had three children, Mary Street Whitaker, Eliza Jane Whitaker, and Benjamin T. Whitaker. Unfortunately Eliza Jane and Benjamin T. as well as their mother Amelia Jane died in 1839 when the children were one and two years old. I have been unable so far to find her parents. Eli then married Elizabeth WATTERS. It is very interesting that so many of your line came from Somerset County, NJ. Eliphalet Whitaker, b. 1732 lived in Somerset County New Jersey until the beginning of the Revolution, when for some reason he sold his property there and he and his wife bought property in Faggs Manor, Chester County, PA. In the "Return of Taxables for the County of Chester - 1785" Oxford Township, PA Eliphalet Whitaker paid tax of 1.19.1. Georgia became a state in 1788 and Eliphalet Whitaker drew land in the Georgia Land Lottery in 1788. 300 acres, 135 acres, and 100 acres in that year. We suspect that he was for awhile in Maryland with his oldest son, and perhaps came through the Carolinas to Georgia. Obidiah Pride Cheatham, brother of Arthur Rudd Cheatham ( and Ascenath Whitaker) married Charity BRYAN. There are CLARK's and Clarke's mixed all in the Whitaker lines back in New York and New Jersey. Thanks again. I'm hoping that I may find a connection with this Alexander O'Daniel. Joan Whitaker Landrum ----- Original Message ----- From: "John R. 1. Re: [GAJEFFER] Families of Jefferson County, gA
    2. John R. Clarke
    3. Hi, You sure are putting some folks awful near my family. Some of my family was from Somerset County, NJ. That Alexander DANIEL you have tied to one of the daughters of Col. Benjamin WHITAKER and Ann EMANUEL really interests me. I have an Allen DANIEL born 1793 that I cannot account for and someone may have later cobbled the name, Alex, into Allen. I have a list of 10 DANIEL kids but can confirm 6 maybe 7 of them. I also have one addition child, a Chesley C. DANIEL, but this is from the research of Buckner K. JOHNSTON up in NC but I have him on DANIEL marriage bonds and guardianship bonds in Burke County, GA so he may well be a sibling, too. The reason this Alex interests me is because there is an Alexander O'DANIEL born 1759 in Duplin County, NC who married Elizabeth GRADY, d/o William GRADY and Ann BARFIELD of Duplin County, formerly of Bertie. Alexander was the son of Frederick O'DANIEL and Charity WHITFIELD of Duplin County, NC. If you know the WHITFIELDS, they are all over the BRYANS. The MCCULLARS you also list are tied to the BRYANS in Johnston County, NC and one of your WHITAKERS married a BRYAN. I cannot tied Frederick or Alexander O'DANIEL to my DANIEL bunch but they are close enough for me to watch, closely, until I find a parent for Robert C. DANIEL (ABT 1765-AFT 1830) of Burke County, GA. I know who his wife was, Penelope LANE (1773-1846), d/o Capt. Isham LANE (ABT 1730-1801) of Greene County, NC but I cannot tie him back to a parent, either. I do think his wife was a Lucy GRAY, d/o Capt. John GRAY and Ann BRYAN of Lenoir County, NC but that is just a guess. I do think that Isham was a brother of Levin LANE of Jones County, NC, who also married a BRYAN. I also think these BRYAN roll back to Somerset County, MD. Did I tell you that the father of my GGM, Anne Eliza POTTER (1808-1863) who married Charles W. RICHTER (1807-1884), who we think was from the Somerset or Monmouth County, NJ area? He was a ship captain that some say was a John WHITE and some a Robert WHITE. I think John, which is where my name comes from. I also think he was married to a Margaret HARTSHORNE. The Charles CLARK family of Richmond County, GA, who was also from NJ, was all over my DANIEL family. Charles E. CLARK III (1782-1852) lived near Blythe, Richmond County, GA but actually lived very near my 2nd GGF, Robert C. DANIEL in 1820-1830. My bunch, like your WHITAKERS, could well be out of a New England family that migrated through NY, NJ, MD on the way to GA but mine stopped off in eastern NC for a generation or more. However, the best links in my DANIEL bunch are to the Lanier-Daniel family of Pitt County, NC and the Rogers-Daniel family of Martin County, NC. John R. 1. Re: [GAJEFFER] Ga-Jefferson Co. Court (Smith)
    2. In a message dated 6/24/04 8:58:26 PM Eastern Daylight Time, jclarke@rose.net writes: We also know that Jordan SMITH is in the equation because the Jordan SMITH name is mentioned in the 1843 will of and Ethelred SMITH in Jefferson County, GA. This would not be the same Jordan Smith that lived in Washington county. He died in Washington County in 1835 and is buried there. His nephew, Jordan, son of his brother Brittain Smith of Jefferson County also died in 1835 but in Lee County, Georgia . He is buried there. I don't know who the Jordan Smith was that was an heir of Ethelred but I got an email from Susan Rivers of Augusta Georgia in 1999 who has been trying to figure out who the Jordan Smith was who was suddenly in the household of Richard and Polly Smith. She says he suddenly appeared on the Jefferson County 1860 census and that he died at the second Battle of Manassas Va in 1862 at age 39. Maybe she would like to hear from you. Her address is old but was SRivers563@aolcom All I can say is that most of Benjamin Smith's sons: Simon, Brittain, Jordan , Bennett and Samuel moved to Jefferson and Washington County by 1800. Another son, Sion, had died and had heirs who benefitted from Benjamin's will. I don't have knowlege of a Jordan that age, but there are many possibilities there of relationships..........It is certainly more than possible that Benjamin (Nash, NC) might have had brothers all over North Carolina in the 1700s. The Will of Brittain Smith is on your Wills page. His name on the will, however, was Brittain, rather than Britan. He was also the executor of his father-in-law's will --John Warren of Jefferson County. LL

    3. Hi, I watch this SMITH bunch pretty close. An Ethelred SMITH and Noah SMITH lived in Greene County, NC near Robert C. DANIEL and Penelope LANE in 1800. In 1812, Robert and Penelope moved to the 65th MD of Burke County, GA. Living near Robert C. DANIEL (DANIEL, Robert C. - 210001-01110 - 10 slaves) in the 65th MD of Burke in 1820 is a Noah SMITH (SMITH, Noah - 100001-21010 - 23 slaves) Living next to Robert W. DANIEL (RCD's son) in 1850 in Jefferson County, GA is also a Noah SMITH (Smith, Noah, age 38, male, born Jefferson County, GA, farming, $20,000). We know these are two different Noah SMITHS but they may be father and son or uncle and nephew. We also know that Jordan SMITH is in the equation because the Jordan SMITH name is mentioned in the 1843 will of and Ethelred SMITH in Jefferson County, GA. <<< Jefferson Co. Wills (1777-1893) ETHELDRED SMITH 11/18/1843:5/6/1844, p. 288-289 Wife: Nancy. Sons: Noah, Richard. To ch of son, Jordan Smith, decd. Daus: Amy Youngblood, Polly Oliphant. To ch of dau., Patsey Hudson, decd. To ch of dau., Nancy Harris, wife of Samuel H. Harris. Wits: R. W. Johnson, Waddle Allen, J. W. Allen. >>> Anyway, this whole SMITH bunch, Etheldred, Noah and Jordan are related. Maybe different generations but still the same overall SMITH family. I do not know about the name, Brittian. However, I know that a Brittian was a later given name in the John SMITH II (1690-1777) and Elizabeth WHITFIELD family of Wake County, NC. This SMITH family may well roll into this DANIEL family but I do not know where the SMITHS of Greene County, NC came from. I also know the children of Rev. Jordan SMITH (1777-1835) and his wife, Mary GAINER, were all over this DANIEL family. Others that are tied to this bunch are the BRITT or BRETT family. We also know that some of this bunch later migrated to Jackson County, FL Accompanying them was a William DANIEL (b. ABT 1760) and his wife, Betsy WATTS. So, we know the GAINERS, BRETTS, WATTS, CALLAWAYS and SMITH were closely collateral, even back in NC. I think the Robert C. DANIEL who moved to Burke and the William DANIEL who moved to Emanuel County, GA and then to Jackson County, FL may well have been brothers. We also know a William DANIEL was listed as living in the home of Capt. Isham LANE (ABT 1730-1801) in 1793 in Greene County, NC. We also know that Robert C. DANIEL was married to Penelope LANE, the daughter of Capt. Isham LANE and his wife, Lucy, who I think was a Lucretia GRAY (1732-AFT 1773), d/o John GRAY, Sr. and Ann BRYAN of Lenoir County, NC. We also know that John CASON, Sr. of Pitt County, NC stated in his will that a Robert and William DANIEL were his grandsons and he sold the land he owned in Emanuel County, GA to this William -- the same fellow who later migrated to Jackson County, FL ABT 1825. John CASON, Sr. died in Burke County, GA in 1816. The CASONS were from Princess Anne County, VA before migrating to Pitt County, NC and later to Burke County, GA. Living right beside Robert C. DANIEL in Burke in 1820 are the BYNES, also from Princess Anne County, VA. Another family tied to the CASONS are the CANNONS, also from Princess Anne County, VA. My best guess is the DANIEL boys are Lanier-Daniel descendants from Pitt County, NC but they may be Swain-Daniel descendants from Martin County, NC. The key to it are the GAINERS and the GAINERS are tied to the SALTERS of Pitt and they, in turn, are all over the Lanier-Daniel bunch from Pitt, so that is why this family is my first choice. My best bet is their father was Capt. Robert Lanier DANIEL of Pitt and his second wife, a CASON girl. My best bet is the LANES of Dobbs County, NC are tied to the BRYANS, WHITFIELDS, GRAYS, BLOUNTS, BONNERS, GREENS, COUNCILLS, HARDYS and that bunch from Craven, Dobbs and Lenoir. RLD's family is also tied to the same bunch through the WHITFIELDS and WARRENS. Also note the "Patsy Hudson" name in the will of Etheldred SMITH. The HUDSONS were tied to the same DANIEL family in Pitt because Rhoda DANIEL, d/o Capt. Robert Lanier DANIEL and his first wife, married a Robert HUDSON, son of William HUDSON and Frances GREEN. These SMITHS have to be out of the same overall group families and if they are like the DANIELS, they roll back to IOW, Surry and Brunswick County, VA. John R. 3. Hi, The problem would then be -- you will get this new post, as well as all the other ones, too. <grin> Messages to lists will not bounce for long because after 4-8 bounces, according to the list -- Rootsweb's servers drop that subscriber's name from the list. What I have done is add the subject line (DELIVERY FAILURE)to my list of message subjects that Outlook Express will automatically send to the Deleted Items folder, so I never see them. You can do this via of the Message Rules section OE's Tools/Message Rules. While you are at it, you can also add other words to this search - SEX, SALES, LOANS, PERSCRIPTIONS, DIPLOMA, FREE, etc. and it will send messages which contain these subject lines to your Deleted Items folder. 3. Wouldn't it be better for everyone to sign up for the DAILY-UPLOADS-L@rootsweb.com instead of getting all of the GA Archive Uploads to every list we are on? Is it any wonder so many have e-mail's are bouncing? Thanks, Winn --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
