I am not actively researching the Dixon line at this time, but my great grandfather was James A. Dixon married to May Belle Thigpen. Their surviving children were Martha Dixon, Ida Dixon, Leroy Dixon, and Eugene Dixon all of Avera, GA. In a message dated 4/5/2005 11:02:40 PM Eastern Daylight Time, GAOkralady@aol.com writes: I am working on the Avera, Beasley, Faglie/Faglier and Curry connections with the Dixon/Dickson Family. Do any of you know of William Dickson married to Mary ? (Avera?). They are listed in 1850 Census, Warren Co. having children William G., Elizabeth J., Alexander, Cinthia. Richmond, Gibson C., and Marshall Dickson. I am also interested in Thomas Ransom Dixon who was the father of John Thomas Dixon born 1907, died 1964. Any help would greatly appreciated. Does anyone know of a Mary Avera/Avery that married a Dickson/Dixon? Mary would have been born in early 1800's. I thought possibly that the Mary and William Dixon of 1850 census may have been my Mary Avera/Avery. Thanks, Janice Fail
Karen, I am interested in William's marriages. Thank you. Janice Fail _GAokralady@aol.com_ (mailto:GAokralady@aol.com)
Janice, William Dickson in the 1850 Warren Co census is William B. Dixon/Dickson son of Hickman Dixon, Sr. William, as far as I know, was only married 2 times: 1m Serena Wilcher 13 Aug 1826 and 2m Anna Fountain 3 Jul 1864. In the 1850 census there is a Mary age 46 - I have heard speculation this is Serena whose actual name was Mary Serena - I cannot prove this. Serena's was born abt. 1804 and the age would fit with this time frame - of course ages cannot be a point of proof due to the fact that some only age a few years every 10 years and some age more than 10 years within the same period. If anyone has definite proof that Mary is actually another person it would be greatly appreciated. I descend from Hickman Dixon, Sr. through his son Bynum. Sandy Wyman
William had other marriages with other marriages. Are you interested? Karen
All: Has anyone been able to tie the Dixon's/Dickson's of Avera to ones of Glascock County? Jim Dixon
Hello Bob, Meloney and All, I am also interested in the Dixon/Dickson line from Warren and Jefferson Co., GA. Meloney: Actually, the paper was not found at a Glover residence. My husband's elderly uncle married a Gracie Glover (don't know her maiden name). She was a widow, I think. The uncle's name was Olin Dixon and lived in Glascock County, GA. Gracie died in 1973. The house has pretty much remained the same since she died. You wouldn't believe the dust, dirt, rat droppings, etc. Two old uncles lived in the house together; both are now dead. Neither had any children. We have been clearing papers, etc., and just happened to run across some things pertaining to Glovers. We have been in contact with Gracie's daughter in Wrens, GA who has expressed an interest in some of her mother's things. We also found some old tintype pictures which we plan to give to the daughter. If I can figure out my scanner, I will be glad to send you copies of what we found. Since my husband and I are into "history", we felt it would be a shame to just throw away all this old scrap of paper. We wanted to share even though they don't pertain to the Dixon family. As a side note, the Dixon house where Gracie and Olin lived was built in 1860. (I think they were married no more than three years when Gracie died.....it was a shame because this was the first marriage for Uncle Olin). The original one room house (more crude rooms were added) is made of square logs. We hope to be able to preserve the house or at least prevent it from being torn down. The Dixons have owned it since it was built and we hope to keep it in the family. My husband and brother are hoping to purchase it. The Joe Dixon line passes through to our son and grandson. There will be no other Joe Dixon (male) descendents. Diane
To JDixn8671 Do you have a scanner? Could you please scan the piece of paper and e-mail to me? Can you tell us which family member you found it at? The Wilson Glover was a son of Seaborn and Nancy. Wilson married a Carrie Elizabeth Whitehead. I come from the Whitehead line. Carrie Elizabeth Whitehead would have been a 3rd cousin of mine. I would love to have a copy of that piece of paper.
