Penelope LANE (1773-1846), wife of Robert C. DANIEL (ABt 1765-AFT 1830) was the d/o Capt, Isham LANE (ABT 1730-1801) of Greene County, NC and UNK wife, maybe a BRYAN. I think Isham was a brother of Levin LANE (ABt 1730-1790) of Jones County, NC but that is a guess. He married Penelope BRYAN, d/o Edward and Ann "Nancy" DEPITT. John R. Thanks. I already have this. I went to the courthouse in Louisville several years ago and got copies of both of these wills. I was hoping that you might have come across something else: perhaps something that would reveal the surnames of the wives: Elizabeth & Nancy. John McGowan is the one that is the biggest mystery. I have a problem with his son John. Don't know if he is actually the William listed in the 2nd will or perhaps just not listed in the will. I would assume that he died in 12/1828 when the will was probated. The John McGowan that I am descended from who was the son of Nancy McGowan has conflicting birthdates: 1806 on a toombstone listing and going back from census records 1832. If anyone else has any additional information on David or John McGowan or either of their wives, I would appreciate hearing from them. Thanks again for your trouble. No, but I have HANNAHS and they were out of Charlotte County, VA. Then also tie into the CUNNINGHAMS. The name, THOMPSON, must be close to this bunch because Ann Thompson HANNAH (1777-1837) married John Thomson DANIEL (1773-1845), son of James DANIEL II and Elizabeth CUNNINGHAM of Greene County, GA. I know that Ann and John ended up in Taliaferro County, GA. I have looked very closely at this DANIEL-CUNNINGAM family of Greene County, GA but I cannot fit my DANIELS into it. What we know about this bunch is they were Irish and moved from PA to the Augusta County, VA area, then down to PE County, VA and then down to Greene County, GA. They were Presbyterians out of that Cub Creek bunch in VA but they tote a lot of families with them that are really familiar to me, including the COFFEES and CHARLTONS. The one thing that keeps my interest up about them is their migration path because they flow right through many of the same areas frequented by my RENEAU clan, which includes the RAMSEYS and ALEXANDERS. This bunch migrated from Fauquier and Frederick County, VA areas down to Jefferson County, TN. Earlier on, the RENEAUS had been in Manikin Town, VA, part of this original Huguenot settlement, along with the LANIERS. I do know there was a Cunningham Corners located just below Wadley on the Emanuel County, GA line, at on point. I do not know who this was named for and whether they had any connection to this CUNNINGHAM family of Greene County, GA. However, I will tell you these Cunningham DANIELS of Greene County, GA match my DANIEL bunch to a tee, financially and professionally. John R. I do not know if the PARKERS of Greene and Wayne County, NC, probably formerly of Edgecombe or that area, made it to GA or not but the link I have in my bunch to the name PARKER is Rev. Isaac PARKER. Bethany LANE, sister of my 2nd GGM, Penelope LANE (1773-1846) married Rev. PARKER. I also have one other possible link to the name, PARKER. Rev. James PARKER of the GA Conference who was married to a Martha had a daughter, America Melvenia PARKER (b. 1836) who we think married 1st SGT Louis Lafayette RENEAU (1834-1853). Louis was 1st SGT of Company E, 6th AL and was killed at the Battle of Chancelorsville, VA on 3 May 1863. Louis was of Montgomery, AL area when he joined the 6th AL. I also know that another family member commanded the 6th AL. Col. Isaac Franklin CULVER, CSA of Henry County, AL. His son, Dr. Frank Pugh CULVER, DD married as his second wife, Mary Lee WHITE (1874-1943), the d/o of my Grand Aunt, Anna Thomas RICHTER (1850-1933), and Gen. Ben WHITE of Meridian, MS. Dr. CULVER was later President of Texas Wesleyan University in Ft. Worth. I also saw something very interesting last night on the History Channel. In the late 1800's, a Judge Isaac C. PARKER was the Federal District Judge in Ft. Smith, Crawford County, AR. In the 1850-60's my 2nd GGF, Rev. Russell RENEAU (1807-1865) was the Presiding Elder in Ft. Smith, AR and I have several other family members who lived in Van Buren, AR which is located, nearby. I do not know if Judge PARKERS family connects back to this NC PARKER family or not but that big C. middle initial is all over my DANIEL bunch. Rev. RENEAU's oldest daughter, Mary Jane (1830-1912) married my GGF, Robert W. DANIEL in 1852 and Robert's mother was Penelope LANE. John R. In a message dated 3/30/04 10:03:01 AM Eastern Standard Time, jclarke@rose.net writes: In Jefferson there are few if any records before 1850, as I understand it. I think a lot of these are re-constructed records and not originals. I am sorry, Mr Clarke. You must have misunderstood . Why don't you take a trip and visit courthouse in Louisville and see what they have there. The will of Brittain Smith, probated in 1803 is there. I have seen it, my two daughters have seen it, my husband has seen it and so have many others, I imagine. It was there in 1994. It was crumbling. It was an original. I would hope they have put it away in a safe place to keep it from crumbling further. There is nothing "cobbled up" about my Smiths. I am afraid you just don't like that will because it proves that your suppositions are not correct. When I visited the courthouse there, the people were very pleasant and helpful. All the records didn't burn. Why on earth would anyone want to RECONSTRUCT a will to show they were related to some North Carolina FARMER? Linda Luther
Yes, would love to see the abstracts posted Dawn. Thanks, Martha
