    1. Pettyjohn - Slaton
    2. I have to backup a little on what I posted the other day (shown below) - I'm not sure about the last name of Jacob Pettyjohn's wife. Her first name was Betsey, but the last name may not have been "Staton". I have copy of a chart that shows Abraham Pettyjohn, who m. Elizabeth Marsh; their dau. Mary Pettyjohn m. James(?) Staton, and Mary d. abt 1808 in Jackson Co., GA. This Mary was the sister of Jacob Pettyjohn - the one that came to Jackson Co. Since the lady who produced the chart was uncertain of the first name of James(?) Staton, I'm wondering if it could have been William Staton. Abraham Pettyjohn d. abt 1763 in Sussex Co., DE, and his widow Elizabeth Marsh married twice after his death. (They had 3 children: Jacob, William and Mary.) She m. second Robert Warren, Jr. Mar. 7, 1764 in Sussex Co., DE (and this was probably the father of Abraham Warren who m. Rebecca Staton on 1/20/1794 in Amherst Co., VA). Her third marriage was to Pearce Wade bef. Dec. 1769, Amherst Co., VA. The book TIDEWATER VA FAMILIES by Virginia Lee Hutcheson Davis, 1989, has a substantial amount of info - well researched - on the Pettyjohn family. Faye My prior posting shown below: ---------------- I have some info on Staton's & Pettyjohn's also ... your Jacob must have been a grandson of Jacob Pettyjohn who died in Jackson Co., will dated 12/13/1810, probated 1/7/1811. I have the names of the children of his sons Abram and James, but not for Reuben and William. Do you have? His wife's name was Betsey Staton. You probably have, but he was b. in Sussex Co., DE about 1754, was in Albemarle/Amherst Co., VA, also was found in SC prior to moving to Jackson Co. Also named was dau. Sally Kirkpatrick. One of the executors of his will was Abram Warren. Abraham Warren m. Rebecca Staton, dau. of William Staton, on 1/20/1794 in Amherst Co., VA, and Jacob Pettyjohn was the surety. I suspect William Staton was the brother of his wife Betsey, and that Rebecca was his neice. He also named Fleming Staton as his nephew. These relationships get quite confusing, but - as far as I can figure out - William Staton married Lucy Bailey, dau. of Samuel Bailey. Abram Warren d. 7/1818 and Rebecca (Staton) Warren and Ralph Bailey were appointed executors of his estate. (Ralph Bailey is my line.) Samuel Bailey's will was dated 2/16/1796, probated 2/1797 in Albemarle Co., VA and named his dau. Lucy Staton.
