Pub. first in 1965 by National Genealogical Society: ISBN: 0-915156-30-X "3-393 WALTERS: (Also see WATERS No 398 below): Robert Walters of Franklin Co, GA, in 1794 gave a power of attorney to his son Robert of Pittsylvania Co.,VA, to sell his land there. Robert Sr. of Pittsylvania--where he and William lived as early as 1767--fought at the Battle of Guilford Court House. Elijah, John, Robert (2), Thomas and William Walters were taxed in Pittsylvania in 1782 and in 1785 they again appeared on the tax list, with the addition of Clement and another Robert. Clement also was a Revolutionary soldier. Clement, Eleanor and Nancy Walters were enumerated in Habersham Co. in 1820, and others were in Hall, Baldwin and Lincoln Counties. In 1832, Clement Waters, the old soldier drew Cherokee County land granted Dec. 14, 1838. Another Revolutionary veteran was Peter Walters of Franklin Co, who in 1827 drew Muscogee County land granted March 8, 1830. Two Roberts and Juda left will in Franklin County. There were a number of marriages including that of Jeremiah to Eliza Tate, and in 1827, Larkin Walters was listed in the lottery. John R. Waters was in the 1827 lottery in Habersham County, where in 1850 William Waters, born 1795 in GA, was enumerated." "398. WATERS (See Walters, above): Matthew Waters was called for the first Jackson County Jury, January, 1797. Thomas Waters from SC was granted land on Savannah River Sept. 27,1773, and Matthew, also from SC, with one son and six daughters, was granted land on Savannah the following Oct.13. Both appear from time to time in the Wilkes Co. records and by 1783 Matthew was dead. The Matthew of Jackson Co. was perhaps a son or nephew (?). Collison or Callison Waters had land on Wardman's Creek in McKeever's district in 1803 and he was listed in the 1805 Jackson lottery. In 1820, the family was enumerated in a number of counties, including Wilkes, Elbert, Washington and Oglethorpe. In 1827, James' orphans were listed in Gwinnett County, and William was living in Walton County. George M. Waters, who at this time lived in Bryan County, later moved to Gwinnett." 1-1053. WATERSON, John 001201-01001-8 Untraced. Joseph KERCAM and John WATERSON "of Georgia", were issued a passport May 8, 1801, for a trip to the west. A John WATERSON was living in Lincoln County, NC, in 1790, and the family is found previously in Virginia. Daniel W. WATERSON was in Winn's district of Jackson County in 1827. The numbers 3-398, 1-1053 are numbers used by Mr. Stewart as his reference numbers.
