Hi The Jackson Co. Historical Society, located in the Crawford W. Long Museum in Jefferson is an excellent place to start. It has records compiled by various people on their family history, and some good books on local history and genealogy. Also, the county courthouse has records going back to 1796. The people in both places are knowledgeable, very friendly, and extremely helpful. I went back there several years ago, stayed for a week, and enjoyed myself immensely. Susan Deaver of the Historical Society found a report of an archaeological dig on my gr-gr-gr-grandfather's property, helped me with some county maps, and gave me directions to the site. I just wish I had had more time. I know you'll enjoy your trip. Craig Burns cburns@mcn.org
