    2. Danny - The name is spelled Mangam, or Mangum, in the 1850 Jackson Co. Census, but I've also seen it spelled as Mangrum. I don't think its the same as Manus, or at least I can't find any Manus references in what I have on Jackson Co. About 1805 or so, there was a Howell Mangrum in Franklin Co. (Jackson formed totally out of Franklin in 1796), but he was here a little too early for the ones in Jackson Co. Arthur Mangum was age 50 in the 1850 Jackson Co. census, born in NC, wife Lavina, b. abt 1845 in GA, and Lucy Mangum, age 90, b. in VA, so it looks like the family originally came from VA. Not far from Arthur is a William Mangum, age 57, b. NC - I suspect this is his brother. There was also a Middleton P. Mangam, age 25, b. GA, wife Rebecca 24, & child Sarah E., 1 mos. old.
