I would like to tell about my experience with the Jackson County Courthouse. In the spring I called the courthouse in Jefferson, Ga and requested a copy of John Martin's will. I was told all I needed to do was send a letter with my request and a stamped self addressed envelope and they would mail a copy of the will to me. About a week after I mailed my request I received a letter from a man in Waycross, Ga telling me he would copy the will from the Will book by Faye Poss for $10 plus $2 handling fee. He said the employees at the courthouse were to busy to make copies. It was mailed in the envelope I sent to the courthouse. Well I checked online and bought the book for $32 and found 6 wills for my ancestors in it. The book is well written. I had copied one of the orginal wills earlier in the Archives and the transcribed will is exactly the same. Needless to say I was dissappointed in the people from the courthouse sending my request to someone in the southern part of the state, no where near the archives or Jackson Co., GA Joyce in AL << Could someone please give me the address for obtaining copies of Jackson Co wills & deeds. Do you get the deeds & wills from the same office? or separate depts? TIA for your help. Traci H. >>
