Maybe we can share information. http://members.aol.com/REL935/INDEX.HTM Earlene Lyle

Jackson Co. Researchers, The GRS CD 226 lists a Mary or Polly Sephezla marrying a Thomas Street Dec. 22, 1814 in Jackson Co. I have never found anyone with her last name. It was most likely hard to read and the person who transcribed this record wrote down what they thought it looked like. Any help on this name would be appreciated. Thanks. Tom Street reet=20
I am seeking information on any O'Banions (O'Bannons) who may have lived in Jackson County during the late 1700s or early 1800s. I am particularly interested in Thomas O'Banion who was listed on the 1801 Jackson Co. Tax List. Born in 1780, he married Mildred Traylor in Oglethorpe Co. in 1799. They moved to the MS Territory by 1809. The part they moved to later became Limestone Co., AL. I would love to correspond with anyone who has O'Banion ancestors from this part of GA. Also, would like to hear from those whose ancestors migrated from Jackson Co. to the MS Territory. Thanks, Sherry Ledlow
I saw your Jackson Co. query regarding Thomas Harvey m. _____ Burns. I don't have any Harveys, but I do have Burns here early on. I have two daughters of William Burns and Margaret Mitchell, but they might be too young. Sally Burns was born 9 Jan 1782, and Mary Burns was born 30 May 1784. In my family, the name of Mitchell was often used as a middle name. Hay and Brantly were used also, but I think these were related to one of their brother's wives. If you think this might do any good, I'll be glad to share any info I have. Craig Burns
I am looking for a early marriage between a Thomas Harvey and a burns. Can someone who has access to early records be able to do a look up? John Hansel Dillard (age of 67 years) d. 1, July, 1917 --bur: Doster Family Cemetery in Jackson Co. Ga. Note: Doster is the correct surname. My 3rd gr gr gr Grandfather Thomas J. Doster left it in his will for the property to be left for a burial ground for his descendants, I live here in Jackson County. In response to the posting of Libbie: Hugh Phillips-- b. 11, Nov. 1869 d.28, Oct. 1957 & his wife: Bessie Lyle (b. 2, May, 1872 d. 12, July, 1927) **note they are both are buried there.
Pat, I am very intrigued by your note. I research all the DOSS families, including those in Jackson Co. The Pittsylvania Co. Va. Doss family was closely allied with their neighbors, the Dillards. I don't recognize the given names John or Joseph in that family, but I haven't researched them closely. Hugh Phillips is another name often associated with the Doss familiy, particularly in early North Carolina. We believe that the Jackson Co. Doss families left Va. ca. 1780 and settled for a while in North Carolina, then in western South Carolina, before moving to Jackson Co. ca. 1800. You say you find your ancestor in the "Doster" cemetery -- I wonder if this might be Doss instead? The Doss family lived around Talmo, Jackson Co. Somewhere in the blurr of e-mail that went past me in the last week or so was a note which said the Stoneham family was from Pittsylvania Co. The Dillard's of Pittsylvania were comparatively well-to-do and included the local militia company captain during the Revolution. They may well be worth your investingation. The note from Harry pointing out that a deceased person who left a will has an executor while one who died intestate has an administrator was exactly right. That is the definition of those terms. But the fact that a person died without a will does not mean there are no records. The Jackson Co. courthouse has wonderful records. Check there for administrator's accounting reports and also for division of property among the heirs. Very often more can be learned about people who died intestate than from wills -- you just have to work a little harder to find the old records at the courthouse. It seems very unusual that the administrator had his own name and office engraved on the tombstone. That could indicate the deceased had no close family, or it might point to a big family fight that would enlighten you. If you are lucky, the fight ended up in court and there will be lots of old records just waiting to "explain it all to you." Next Saturday and Sunday the McElhannons will have a reunion in Jackson County, GA. Pat There is no certainty of it Pat, but the term "Administrator" usually applies when a person died intestate. When they die testate, the term "Executor" is correct and more likely to have been used. An Executor would have been responsible for executing only those things directed by the Will, and by law. Wills often direct that matters associated with burial be attended. An Administrator, on the other hand, would automatically be charged with attending "all" matters of cost associated with an estate prior to a person's death, and afterward. Harry Nelms
