One good place to do Jackson Co. research is at the library in Commerce, Ga. They have all the old Jackson Herald newspapers on file. I have found and copied obituaries of my family dating back to 1910, still readable. They have some wonderful research books too. Good genealogy dept. Another library with Jackson Co. records is in Gainesville, Ga. They have census records on file, as well as many Ga. records and other local research books. This genealogy dept is much bigger than Commerce. Am researching Banks of Jackson Co., and have found good info at both libraries. Have also been to Jackson Co. courthouse and found the people there to be very helpful. Happy Hunting!! Judy
Hi The Jackson Co. Historical Society, located in the Crawford W. Long Museum in Jefferson is an excellent place to start. It has records compiled by various people on their family history, and some good books on local history and genealogy. Also, the county courthouse has records going back to 1796. The people in both places are knowledgeable, very friendly, and extremely helpful. I went back there several years ago, stayed for a week, and enjoyed myself immensely. Susan Deaver of the Historical Society found a report of an archaeological dig on my gr-gr-gr-grandfather's property, helped me with some county maps, and gave me directions to the site. I just wish I had had more time. I know you'll enjoy your trip. Craig Burns cburns@mcn.org
Hi List, My 3gr-grandfather went to Georgia in the 1790's from Maryland. He had received a land grant for revolutionary service. In 1810 he was in Jackson County. I recently found where a William Beauchamp was serving in Brodnaux Battalion of the Georgia Militia. Would anyone know if this battalion was in the area of Jackson County. I would like to get his service record if there is a possibility that the Wm Beauchamp was my grandfather. Thanks for any help. Gary Hawley Hot Springs, Ar

Hi, Are any of your Cooks married to Bennetts or Martins? Thanks, Pat
Greetings Jackson County researchers. Just subscribed to the list. I am searching for information on a Robert Cook. He is believed to have come from North Carolina and settled in Carroll County, Georgia around the 1840's. I have recently found out that one of his children, George Washington Cook, was born in Jackson County in 1829. This information came from his pension records. I have been unable to find who the parents of Robert Cook are. I have quite a bit of information on Robert and his children after they arrived in Carroll County. I was wondering if anyone on this list might have some information on this family. Thanks Johnny Cook jcook@ellijay.com
Is there someone who can tell me where Walnut Baptist Church is located. Thanks.
Hi, I'm try to determine if there is any connections or associations between John Callehen (various spellings) of Jackson Co. and William Brown who was in Jasper Co. GA in 1820 (1824-1839 in Monroe/Pike Co). I'm also looking for deed or other document of land transfer for land lot 8-395 in Early Co. that John Callehen drew in the 1820 land lottery. William Brown paid taxes on the land in 1828. Thanks, Birdcro
