Would there be some one who could do a look up for me? I would like a copy of the will of William RAY who was born about 1788 married Nancy H.? The information is found in "Will Extracts A & B for 1803-1860, Jackson Co., GA." I would be happy to pay expenses for postage and copies. Thank you. Margaret
Hi Margaret, I am looking desperately for the family of Cloa Ray Gunter. She is said to be the daughter of William Calvin Ray. Do you by chance know anything about this family??? Thanks, Thelma
I am researching William Henry SHIELDS b. ca 1820 m. Ann M. BROWNFIELD. I am descended from their daughter Frances Cornelia SHIELDS who married Anderson RAY in 1846 in Jackson Co., GA. Anderson RAY's father is William RAY b. ca 1788 Any information would be appreciated. Margaret
I have a Samuel Hay b. 1-30-1779 m. Esther (or Easter or Ester) Brantley on 10-24-1800 in Oglethorpe Co. d. 6-2-1838 in Jackson Co. The children I have for them are Sarah b. 9-16-1801, Catcey b. 12-20-1804, and Betsy b. 6-7-1810. I'm descended from Sarah, who married David Mitchell Burns in Jackson Co. The name Catcey piqued my interest since I had never heard of it before. Just recently, I corresponded with a lady with Hay ancestors who says she has old family letters that mention Catcey. I have nothing further on descendants of Samuel except for Sarah, but the dates seem to fit. Do any of your people have a middle name of Brantley? Do you have any further info? If I get any, I'll pass it along Craig

Seeking information about Matthew Williamson (1825-1855). If anyone can help me locate his descendants or his grave, I would be so grateful. Please read the following notes: MATTHEW M. WILLIAMSON was born 1825 in Emanuel County, GA, and died April 02, 1855 in Emanuel County. His parents were John Williamson and Elizabeth Sullivan. He married MARY FOUNTAIN June 14, 1841 in Emanuel County. She was born 1825, and died in FL?. Child of MATTHEW WILLIAMSON and MARY FOUNTAIN: JOHN WILLIAMSON, b. 1846, Emanuel County, GA; d. FL?. 1850 Census Emanuel County, GA #447 Matthew Williamson age 24 Mary age 24 John age 4 Matthew died when he was shot in the back by an onlooker as he mounted his horse to leave the scene of a duel in which he had killed his opponent. Original place of burial (in Emanuel County) unknown--assume he was buried in same cemetery with his father who died four years earlier...this old burial site has been lost to time. I learned the date of Matthew's death when I found the grave of the man he had killed. A nephew of Matthew told me that his remains were removed to Florida in later years by his children and some of his brothers were present when the remains were exhumed. At the time of his death, he was a resident of Madison County, Florida; therefore, he moved there from Georgia between 1850 and 1855. Only a few weeks prior to his death, he had sold all of his property in Georgia to his brother, Samuel. His estate was administered by his brother-in-law, Thomas J. Morris. There may be other children, but I don't have any further records. Your help will be appreciated. Olivia Williamson Saffold in Emanuel County, GA saffold@pineland.net

Is there anyone on this list that can do a look-up for me in Jackson Co. Records offices? I am interested in when James Hinson BARR obtained his property, also possibly Joseph BARR's property. I have a copy of a bill of sale for Tax property that James H. Barr purchased, but would like to know others that he purchased in the early 1800's, or possibly late 1700's Birth records for BARRs in Jackson Co., between 1827-1860. Death records for BARRS in Jackson Co. I would gladly pay for information, to be discussed before work is done. Thank you, Phyllis Barr-Chezem Crothers in Oregon

Am searching for Slaton descendants. I am trying to establish a link between the Slaton Family, the Ervin family, and the Brand family. About 1818 a group of Slatons migrated from SC to Jackson Co., GA taking some of their families with them. Among them were Hayden, Uriah, Wade Hampton, and (female) Mickey Slaton. The family of John Slaton married into my Ervin family in Jackson Co., GA. In a book written by Lewis Norman Mitchell titled "The family of Joseph F. Ervin & Mary "Polly" Loury. The information shown is: "The family of John Slaton is given here to acquaint the descendants of Thomas Slaton and Maggie Ervin with their Slaton ancestry. John Slaton born: ? William Thomas Slaton married Maggie Ervin (Maggie Ervin was born 23 Mar. 1883) John Slaton Jr. married ______ Poe (believe this is acutaly Posie as found in the Slaton files) Edward Slaton married Adie Gilbreth Virgie Slaton married _____________ Poe Charlie Slaton married ____________ Cooley Elizabeth Slaton married ______________ Massagill I would like to find the descendants of George and John Slaton who lived in Jackson County. It is believed that among them is a "Joe" Slaton who at one time was married to Rebecca Brand. To further complicate this whole matter. My grandmother Mollie Irvin married William Brand who was the brother of Rebecca. Please if anyone has any information I would love to hear form you. Respectfully, donna

Hi I did recognize a couple of names, but not the ones you say you are interested in. Hightower Thornton Randolph, b.3 May 1813 in VA, and Washington Russell Randolph, b.15 Aug 1807, were brothers. Their parents were John (Captain Jack) Randolph and Nancy Hinton. Nancy was the gr-granddaughter of Joshua Hightower, accounting for the unusual first name. If you want more information on this family, please let me know. Craig Burns Interested in Burns, Hay, Randolph, and related lines
Hi all, First of all I hope this comes through the same way I've lined it up in this email. I'm hoping someone will recognize these families and help me sort out some of the facts. First what would you say the relationship was between Sampson Hays & Aaron Hays since they live next door to each other? Second, what would be the relationship of the households named Loury/ Lowry/ Lowrey? The names are spelled different, did the census taker just write down anything or are they just not related? Can anyone in the Jackson Co. Area or on the list tell me if any siblings of James Hinson Barr, who moved to Jackson Co in the early 1800s brought any siblings with him? Was the Joseph BARR listed, as witness, on the sale of a slave, in Jackson Co. Court house archives a brother or uncle?? Did James Barr, b. 1720 in Scotland die in Jackson Co.? He was James HinsonBARR's grandfather. James Hinson and wife, are buried at Unity Christian Church, where they were charter members. Is there a record at the church of other BARRs who are buried at the church? I hope there is someone on this list who lives in Jackson Co, or close by who can answer the above questions for me. James Hinson BARR was my gr-gr-Grandfather. His son, John Hinson BARR, b. Jackson Co., came to the NW, settled in Oregon. Thank you! Phyllis Barr-Chezem Crothers in Oregon
