    2. Karen T.Ledford
    3. Dear List: Recently I canvassed the cemetery of Grey Hill in Commerce Ga. for my upcoming book "THESE MEN WORE GREY" Volume 7, Jackson Co., Ga. I found a plot with a W.T. Harber buried in it with "OUR MOTHER": L.E. Payne Aug. 6, 1833----Oct. 27, 1901. Can anyone tell me who she is and who she married. She is the right age to have been married to a Confederate Soldier. I've searched Franklin Co. for records of this name (as they were indicative to that are) with no luck and there is not one Payne or Harber in 1850 or 1860 Jackson Co. If you know of her or can help me please do. My webpage is located at : "http://www.hartcom.net/~scv935/grey" Thank you Karen T. Ledford/Toccoa, Ga. Author of These Men Wore Grey series

    3. Yes, her husband was Francis C. Prater. I'm not sure how he connects with my Prather/Prater line. She was the dau. of Joseph A. Kenney & Martha Letcher Neisler (Martha connects with my Mitchells). I'm sorry I don't have additional info on him. I do have an address for a man who is working on the Vol. III of the Prathers that I could send you if you want. He's pretty much the authority. 3. Dear list: As many of you know I am writing a series of books entitled THESE MEN WORE GREY. I am currently at work on Jackson Co. I canvassed cemeteries all day yesterday. One I worked on late yesterday was PROSPECT. I would like to see if anyone can help me identify the husband of a ANN KENNEY PRATER 1836--1922 buried there. She did not draw a widow's pension and I have no marriage records that list any surname of Prater in any county. I do have some from Clarke Co. but this one is not among them. She is the perfect age to have been married to a Confederate Soldier. They have sons buried there with her, William L. Prater 1854 and Hugh N. 1856. Any help appreciate in identifying her husband's name so he may be identified as a soldier would be wonderful. I also am searching for a husband or to identify that a MILDRED C. PARROT 1841--1922 is a single woman. I found no pension for her either. and an AMANDA JAMESON 1838---1917. no pension drawn and an AREADNA SCROGGS: 1848--1937 also no pension recorded. These last three women may have never been married and they certainly lived long enough that it seems they would have applied for widow's pensions. If you can help I would greatly appreciate it. 2. You can also do this if you have Family Tree Maker software. Just go to Calender and put in the month and year. It will show a calender for that month. Joyce

    3. This information was sent to me by a research acquaintance & I thought it could be useful to others - It does work! Annette http://www.geocities.com/annettega_1999/ - --------------------------- USING INTERNET CALENDARS               Although I was excited to receive copies of my ancestors' newspaper obituaries,               I kept running into a small obstacle: I was given the newspaper date (the date               the obituary was printed), but not the actual date of death. The text would                 read: "Sylvia Walker died Saturday afternoon at her home," or "Mrs. Bettie               Warfield, age 49, died of heart failure early Tuesday morning." Since I didn't               know the day of the week the newspaper printed the obituary, I was unable to               extract an exact date of death; consequently, I was unable to request a copy of               the certified death certificate from the Office of Vital Statistics (which could               lead to further ancestral info, such as parents' names). Then I discovered a               10,000-year calendar on the Internet. I plug in the newspaper date--say,               4/14/1913, a calendar is generated on-screen, and then I can see what Tuesday               date preceded the newspaper date--the actual date of death I needed! I'm sure               there are other such online calendars, but this one works just great for me:                  http://www.calendarhome.com/tyc/

    3. I sure hope you all do not mind my sharing this poem. I think that it sends a powerful message to us All! Annette - ---------------------------------------- TODAY I VISITED YESTERDAY By Pat Conner Rice Today I visited yesterday, And walked among the graves Of family and friends from long ago. Whose memory had begun to fade. The graves were unattended As were my thoughts of them When a vision of the ages past Brought back my sense of kin. The vision showed the church lawn On a crisp summer day The table spread, the food prepared And friends who would break bread All my relatives were there. Both young and old Grandma and I walked hand and hand Sharing stories never told We laughed and cried and Shared our thoughts. And I found the friend I thought I'd lost. As the sun began to fade The church bell rang out clear Grandma and the others slowly disappeared Today I visited yesterday And now the memory is strong Of the family from which I came AND NOW BELONG¦ - --------------------------------- Remember - Those sweet Memories! 1. Moon - Bullock Researchers
    2. Annette
    3. These are NOT my Lines: Thought some of you might want to HELP solve a mystery. I heard from a lady, named Virgina in Georgia who is not on the Internet. She ask me to please post her names of interest in the Jackson Co. & Barrow Co. areas. She is seeking 'ANY' information on her grandfather , who left his wife & children back about 1930 from this area, when Virginia's father (now dec'd) was about 4 or 5 yrs. old. He may have pop back to see the family a couple of times in the early years. Thomas Love MOON married in 1913 probably either in Barrow or Jackon Co. to Georgia BULLOCK (born 1897). [note she married again later to a SIKES.] Thomas was born about 1892 or 1883 & may have died in the 1970's - Place unknown. He may have attended GA. Tech? He may have had at least 12 brothers & sisters in this area. There may be 1 left, if so would be in 80's? One sister was named Lucille Moon & married a Willie T. Moon, possibly lived in Commerce area? She heard from searches that he was at one time in Texas - then another time in Las Vegas , Nevada & lastly may have been in California. He may have gotten killed during a card game? He has family buried at Walnut Fork Baptist Church Cemetery - But there is NO marker for Thomas - so the wandering one may not have came back home to be buried. OK especially any MOON & BULLOCK's are you missing Thomas Love MOON & would like to have contact with your cousin Virginia - Contact Me! Thanks! 1. The Winder News -interesting!
    2. Annette
    3. I am still trying to clean out 20 years of clippings from news papers & other notes that I have saved. For some reason I didn't date this clipping from an old photo copy of The Winder News - but noted one small line of interest & I can't quite make it out but of interest to me any way. I have set down many a day at the old readers & tried to read a lot of the old newspapers of early days - sometimes you can gain a world of in site to those days & people. Brief The Winder News (date unknown) The gentlemen who was writing this was being show around Winder by Doctor Bush. The time frame is unknown but he mentions The Winder Banking Company began business a few years ago & mentions another private banking establishment of ?_____? and Carithers. He mentions the Winder Cotton Mill. Now I didn't make a very good copy but here is what I can make out ---my note in ( - ) Mr. Smith of Smith & Carkhers (same as bank?) is a giant in stature and a most genial man. "Do you know old man John Silvey, of Atlanta?" he asked. "Like a book." Well he was one of my good friends in the old days. John was raised in Jackson County, you know. He told me once that he that when he started in life he worked the first year for his victuals (sic - food?) and clothes. He died rich." He certainly did (answer) "By the way". said Mr. Smith, "I used to know old man Patman (crease in paper?) , who owned pretty much all of the ground Winder stands on before Doctor Bush here came along and bought hm out ?________? I(I couldn't make out the last few words. Now Dr. W.H. Bush died in 1918 so it was before that - Does anyone know who this Mr. Patman could have been?? Just curious!
