    2. Hi, I have completed transcribing the 1860 Jackson County, GA federal census for USGenWeb. Before putting it on line it needs to be proofread by comparing it to the microfilm copy of the census. Would you be willing to volunteer? I will provide a hard copy of the transcription and the volunteer will need to obtain the microfilm for comparing. Ross Jones

    1. Freeman, Vickory, Meigs, Ross-Cherokees-Old Settlers- GA and Arkansas
    2. Laura F. Mills
    3. Dear List Members, I have been working on this family for the past year. George W. Freeman (of Jackson, Franklin, Cherokee and Forsythe Counties GA, Fort Gibson OK and Washington Co, Arkansas) is the brother of my line (Dr. Henry Freeman of Franklin Co GA). Several of George's children were born in Indian Territory (Goingsnake District). I am working to piece this family together until I find a descendant who wants to take it over. Henry Vickery m. Charlotte Cordery (1/2 Cherokee) d/o Thomas Cordery and Susannah Sonicooie. George married Jennie Vickery (Vickory) and they eventually moved to Arkansas where members of his family were listed on the 1895 Old Settler rolls as "Foreman". George Freeman and Jennie Vickery (Vickory) George FREEMAN b.14 Feb 1798; d. 28 Apr 1858. Washington Co. Arkansas Md/25 Dec 1828 to Jennie VICKERY b. 19 Jul 1813 in Georgia. Children: Sarah Charlotte FREEMAN b 1839 Mary Elizabeth FREEMAN b. 1842. Md/John Ross MEIGS- living in Tahlequah, OK in 1895. In 1906 Mary was living in Park Hill, CN, IT. Cynthia Louisa FREEMAN b.1844- on 1895 Old Settler Roll- living in Dutch Mills, Washington Co, Arkansas. Salina Keziah FREEMAN b 1846. Md/William Noel STEWART - living at Grove, Cherokee Nationm as an Eastern Cherokee on the Miller Roll. Henry Benajah FREEMAN b,1851. Md/Elizabeth GOSS b.c.1856 - living in Flint District, Cherokee Nation - children Perry, Mary, Jennie, John, George (Freeman/Foreman) Georgianna FREEMAN b, 1855 . Md/Nathaniel WOFFORD b, 1850 listed on 1895 Old Settler Roll. I am hoping to find other OS (Old Settlers) #24 families and I am especially interested in the marriages of John Ross MEIGS, Nathaniel WOFFORD and Henry Benajah FREEMAN but would like to correspond with anyone with information or ideas about these individuals. This gives us lots of research possibilies. Laura Freeman Mills lfmills@ucdavis.edu

    1. Salina Freeman - Sarah Selina Freeman and her cousin Salina Keziah Freeman
    2. Laura F. Mills
    3. Selina Freeman is a strong the naming pattern in my Freeman line and we have never been able to figure it out. Sarah Selina Freeman b 9 Mar 1826 and d 22 Nov 1847 in Franklin Co. GA d/o Dr Henry Freeman and Martha Mayfield Freeman and wife of William Holley m. 10 Jan 1847 Franklin Co. GA Sarah probably died in childbirth and we have never located her son? or her husband William Holley. and her cousin was: Salina Keziah FREEMAN d/o George W. Freeman and Jane (Jennie) Vickory (Vickery) Md/William Noel STEWART Dr Henry and George W Freeman were brothers from Jackson Co. GA. We do not know where they were born but suspect SC or NC. VA is a 3rd choice. Henry moved to Franklin Co, Georgia to open his medical practice in 1819 but George, a carpenter, moved his family to Cherokee Co GA and then on to Washington Co. Arkansas where members of his family were listed on the Old Settlers rolls as "Foreman". Please read my follow up e-mail(subject: Freeman, Vickory, Meigs, Ross-Cherokees-Old Settlers- GA and Arkansas) for details of George W. Freeman's family. I am hoping to find other GA families who left as OS (Old Settlers). Does anyone out there have any ideas on these individuals? 1. The STREET name.
    2. TOM STREET
    3. To All Jackson Co. Researchers, I am related to Samuel Street who died in Jackson Co. in 1813. He lived on Cabin Creek and I know some Street families attended Cabin Creek Baptist Church just off Highway 441 - five miles south of Commerce, GA. I took a trip back there several years ago and obtained a history of the historical church which started in 1796. The present day church was built in 1917 after the old church burned on a location which is now on private land. The present day cemetery does not go back past 1917. I assume the old church had a cemetery but it is on posted property and I understand the owner will not allow visitors to the old site. If any of my ancestors are buried there, I doubt anyone can locate the grave. There is a fairly large cemetery south on 441 from the cut off to Cabin Creek but I had no luck there either. If any of you run into any information on the STREET family while doing research on other families, please let me know. Thanks - - Tom Street in Tacoma, WA TOMSTREET@prodigy.net

    1. RE: Carden Information Needed
    2. Rebecca Carden
    3. Hello, My name is Becky Carden, and I am new to the list. I am hoping someone on here might be able to help me with my problem Carden! I am desperately seeking information on my GGGrandfather Owen H.R. Carden, and his parents. Sometimes he's also listed as Owen N.K. Carden. He was born around 1820 in Ga., and he was married to a Nancy McLeod, in 1843 in Pike Co. Ga., and they were listed in the 1850 census for Pike Co. Ga. There is a slight possibility that he might be the son of a David Carden, and I believe I have seen a David Carden listed in the census for Jackson Co. Ga. If you have any information on any of the names I have listed, or since I'm grasping at straws, if you have any information on any Carden at all, I would love to hear from you! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much, Becky Carden rec@hiwaay.net
