This book will list and briefly describe all Civil War manuscript collections held by organizations in this state. Due to the large number of such organizations, I cannot visit them all. I need a couple of volunteers to help me with Irwin County. The task involves visiting Jefferson Davis Museum and park, as well as any local libraries and historical societies to check and see if they have any unpublished Civil War era letters or diaries. After that a brief description of the item is all I need. In most cases this entire process can be completed in an hour or two. All volunteers will be credited for their work in the foreword of the book. This work will be of great importance to historians and genealogist all across the nation. According to the Family Tree Maker CD "Marriage Index: Georgia, 1851-1900, Clayton L. Powell did indeed marry Sarah Gibbs on May 17, 1853. The record can be found in the County Court Records, Film #0394635-0394636. Sarah didn't by chance have a brother named John who married Margrett Scaff in Wilcox Co., did he? As I have heard so many others lament, I believe my Gibbs was in the Witness Protection Program, he is so elusive. Thanks!
