It depends on what time frame you need. The History of Irwin County Georgia has the sheriffs listed from 1820 to 1932. Have been told her parents might of been Thomas and Rose/Rosa Smith Jewell. I know this couple lived in Irwin County in the 1850's. It has been said that Love Ann was full blood indian. Her father was perhaps a minister or missionary/circuit rider to indians. If he was, then perhaps he took Love Ann in and raised her. Does anyone have any info on the Jewell's of Irwin County? Greatly appreciate any help anyone could give. [email protected] Thanks, Mary --part1_97.8b2b477.26b21690_boundary--

I was planning a trip to search the marriage docs but glad I didn't if the judge won't let anyone see them. Are any other records available in the library? Do I need an appointment to see them? Thanks, Joe Brinkley

Thanks to the Mormons who came to Irwin Co. and spent 9 months doing this for us. The certificates themselves are also in the library. Our County Commissioners would not make shelves to put them on in the CourtHouse. I can do 2 things for you. 1. I can look up obits in Ocilla Star since 1900-they are on microfilm also -some issues missing. 2. I can copy marriage certificates for you. My time is limited during library hours and it may take me some time to do this. And we are trying to improve our Probate Judge situation with the election runoff in 2 weeks. Mr. Smith doesn't even like to help folks at home.

My main concern is the correct idenity of John ? Roberts. John Roberts was married to two women. The first was (we only think was Rebecca Mixon) the second we know for a fact was married to Fereby Whitley. Together they had only one child, Rebecca Estelle Roberts (Sirmans) my grandmother. Everything we come across for both wives show him as either / or John E, John G or John J. I live in Jax. Fl. and I went up to the Irwin Co court house to the probate court, but was not able to get anything because the Judge would not let me look at the records at all. Without being able to do this I can get NO REAL PROOF. Thanks again for your info though . Shirley

Seeking information on Caleb Parker and his family. They were on the census for Irwin Co yrs 1840 and 1850. Then they disappeared. A daughter Manda married Wesley Bass in Sumter Co 1876. Otherwise, there is no information on deaths, burials or anything. Would appreciate any info you might have. Winnette
