There is a large Blue/Gray Museum there where these men donated their relics from the war. Fitzgerald is the only town in Georgia founded by Union soldiers. Fitzgerald is a city in Ben Hill and Irwin Counties in the U.S. state of Georgia, and the county seat of Ben Hill County.[3] The population was 8,758 at the 2000 census. Fitzgerald is the principal city of the Fitzgerald Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Ben Hill and Irwin counties. It was created in 1895, as a community for Civil War veterans by Indianapolis newspaper editor Philander H. Fitzgerald, a former drummer boy in the Union army. The town is located less than 15 miles from the site of the capture of Confederate president Jefferson Davis on May 10, 1865. According to a history I uncovered, the Governor of Georgia sent a train to the Midwest during a severe drought. He brought folks from the Midwest to Fitzgerald. In addition, Mary Eason Omans married Joseph Josiah Davis. This couple had 4 children that I know of. One-James Roland Davis married Lula Jane Paulk. One of their daughters, Agnes Lucille-married Jimmy Joseph Gilliard-my husband's first cousin. Jimmy is deceased but :Lucille is still living in Rockledge, Brevard County, Florida. Joseph Davis died in 1937 in Freeport, Walton County, Florida. Mary Omans Davis also died in Walton County but I am not sure of the death date. Hello Folks, The featured presentation for the May 15th Huxford Quarterly Meeting will be "Genetic Genealogy Update", by Robert B. "Rob" Noles. The Huxford Society Quarterly Meetings are held in the Homerville, Georgia Municipal Complex starting at 2:00 PM. rbnoles@bellsouth.net. The Saturday appointments will be held in the meeting area off the lobby at the Holiday Inn Express in Valdosta (I-75, Exit 18). Rob Noles, a Huxford Board Member is the volunteer Project Administrator for seventeen Surname DNA Projects, and four Regional DNA Projects including the projects for Wiregrass Georgia, the Lumbee Tribe and the Sir Walter Raleigh Lost Colony. Fifty to one hundred years from now, our descendants will find us in the Census, obtain our birth, marriage and death certificates, have copies of our Will, Deeds and Mortgages, but they will be really disappointed, if they don’t find our DNA test results. Don’t delay, get tested! At the Huxford Meeting on May 15th, learn about the Wiregrass Genealogical Database, the Genetic Genealogy tests that are available, which tests are the best for you or a family member, plus learn what you need to know and what to do when you receive your test results from the lab. If you feel you need a private, one-on-one session with Rob Noles to better understand the need for a genetic genealogy test or to obtain a better understanding of your test results, you may schedule a short appointment with Rob for Saturday Afternoon, May 14th by emailing him at Rob Noles Skype Name: robert.b.noles Mandeville, St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana I'm buried in Email; if I don't respond right away; remind me of your request!Director, Huxford Genealogical Society & Library: www.Huxford.comProject Administrator, Genetic Genealogy Projects Director, Knowles/Knoles/Noles Family Association: (for Knowles, Wiregrass, & Lumbee Tribe) Using Genetic Genealogy to prove our family trees www.KKNFA.org Robert B. I have that Cornelia married George W. Yuung, and Louisa married Jacob F. Young, but no Sam for any of their other sisters. Do I have something incorrect here? Hope to be hearing from you.
