Hi folks, This is just a long shot, and I mean a long shot, but I have an Abner Bankston who married a Sarah Turner, born 1809/1809, married May 16,1836 and died after 1891, possibly in the middle Georgia area. She married Abner Bankston in Butts County. At one time Abner Banks ton owned some land lots in Irwin County and was possibly wondering if this Sarah Turner could have been from Irwin County. This was his second wife and thought perhaps they met while he was visiting/working/whatever in Irwin County. Noticed a lot of Turner activity lately so just wanted to throw out the name and see if anyone recognized the name and if the dates fit. Thanks in advance. Don Bankston

A free concert has been arranged for the occasion and the public given a cordial invitation to come. The Tifton orchestra is to furnish the music for the occasion. This program is preliminary to the public opening which will be in the near future. During the hours of intertainment official announcement will be made stating definitely the date of the opening. The swimming pool, skating rink, lunch stand etc., are about completed. There are two running wells of mineral water, in one of which has been placed a pump for supplying all buildings and the grounds with running water and electric lights. At an early date there will be cottages completed for renting. A number of years ago Lucy Lake was one of the most popular resorts in this section, until the buildings were destroyed by fire. Dr. L.A. Carter of Nashville has purchased this property and again made it an attractive resort. The opening again of this resort will meet a much felt want in this section for the past few years. It is believed that the popularity of Lucy Lake will promote a movement for much better roads, eventually paving, between the resort and surrounding towns. The Valdosta Daily Times, page 3, Monday, May 28, 1928 Opening of Lucy Lake With Enjoyable Dance Nashville, Ga., May 28. - A big dance was staged at Lucy Lake Park last week, with crowds of dancers assembling from various places. The Tifton Band furnished the music for the occasion, and an orderly crowd danced until late in the night. This marks the opening of Lucy Lake Park and was so widely attended that is was almost impossible for those arriving late to find a parking space. The bathing suits and skates have arrived and bathing and skating parties are being planned by the young people in Nashville and other surrounding towns. It is an ideal place for picnickers. The Sunday schools at Alapaha had their annual picnic there last week. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. On March 30, 1829, Mary "Polly" Turner married William B. Green in Bulloch County Georgia, these are my 3rd Great Grandparents. We know from various documents that Mary "Polly" Turner was the daughter of a Charles Turner who was referred in one document as being late of Burke County. We also know that Charles Turner had at least one other child, a son named Daniel Turner. William B. Green is named the legal guardian of his brother in law Daniel Turner on Nov 2, 1829. William Green moved his family to Tattnall County Georgia around 1835 and Daniel Turner appears to have followed him. In 1837 William Green purchased land in Tattnall County on the waters of the Ohoopee River, Daniel Turner was a chain carrier when this property was surveyed. Daniel Turner himself then purchased land in Tattnall County in 1840 near the property of William B. Green totaling 1,000 acres. In the 1850 Census, there is a Daniel Turner who is the correct age living in Irwin County. I think this is my 3rd G grandmothers brother not just because of his age, but because of a deed I found in the Tattnall Co. Courthouse. On Nov 29, 1849, Daniel Turner sold his 1,000 acres in Tattnall County to a Micajah Phillips. Now the interesting thing about this is that in this deed Irwin County is not mentioned anyway, Daniel Turner is mentioned as being of Tattnall County, Micajah Phillips of Montgomery County, yet this deep was written and agreed upon in Irwin County. The deed was witnessed by James S. Turner and David Turner J.P. In the 1850 Census, Daniel Turner is listed just a few names down from the David Turner household. In the 1850 Census, Daniel Turner aged 37, has a wife named Martha and children named Joseph John Lisey and Henry I believe that Daniel must be of some relation to the other Turners of Irwin County especially David and James S. Turner. I have never been able to find anything on my 4rth Great Grandfather Charles Turner except for a listing in the Burke Co. Georgia Plat book. I would love to know how Daniel and his father Charles Turner fit into this Turner family. Any information would be appreciated. My Mother-in-law was born in 1920. We were really upset when someone added her to Findagrave.com. If there is no date of death, they are probably still living. I had that taken off. My husband is over in Alabama today to spend Mother's day with her. I have one sister that was born in 1930 and she too is very much alive, as are half her high school classmates. My husband and other members of my family are very much alive that are on the 1940 census. So try to protect them and just because there is an SSDI with SS#s on them, does not mean you should put the SS# on any other website, such as Find A Grave. We need to protect each other from all harm. Thanks, Winn Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
