Tracy, thank you so much for the nice things that you said in your email below. It really makes me feel good to know that others are getting as much enjoyment from the old papers as I am. The past week as been a pretty busy one with some business outside of genealogy and with family obligations but I will get back to the transcriptions in the very near future. Thanks again for the offer to help and I will certainly keep your offer in mind for the future. If you have any photos of the early members of the Paulk or their allied family members that you would like to place on the county site I will be very happy to add those images to the site so people can match the stories with the faces of those people that they descend from. Even if I don't descend from some of those shown in old photos, I still enjoy putting a face with the stories that I find. It makes the stories really come to life for me. Gloria, If there is anyway I can help please let me know? I so enjoy what ever you have to put on line because I know you mean well, and I know your not going to feed me a line. Tracy, worked last night till the wee hours of the morning on both indexing chapter one and then to have a bit of a change went to transcribing from 1901 forward and found so much information. Believe there was some about your ancestor that will be of some interest in that one too for your elder relative to enjoy about her grandfather. Belive your line is through the Clark line? I forget who descends from which line but I am trying to make sure I get all of the information for those of you who have really shown the interest and not to let anything remain that has not been transcribed or abstracted for you. In Dec. 1900 Fred Clark went home to Savannah to spend Christmas with his family. That is just one of the tidbits of information in that first few pages of 1901. Lots of changes in the buildings, businesses, homes being physically moved to other lots in town and also additions like wrap around porches being added to some. The depot being constructed (beginning stages) and who got the bids to do the construction work. Several murders, some deaths, lots of marriages and several old soldiers not doing well or dying. Just so much history in these pages. Thank you so much for your encouragement and appreciation. Kindest Regards, Gloria Tracy Daniel <tracy113@bellsouth.net> wrote: Gloria, Your the best in my book or transcription........ Hi All, when it seemed that finally the Ben Hill County Library had someone who was interested in building the genealogy department and working with genealogist, I find out today that he was "Let Go." A very likable, courteous, thoughtful and considerate gentleman who felt that genealogy was important. So why is he now gone? From what I have heard he was well liked by those who worked under his guidance and there were no problems with his work in the library. His credentials were certainly adequate to be an Interim Director or even Director. Ms. Bacon the former librarian resigned some time ago due to her pay being cut and there were some interesting articles written by the editor of the local newspaper regarding the loss of this able Director. As a genealogist, I had hopes that the library would grow as a genealogy repository for Ben Hill County. The young man had a local student transcribing all of the early obituaries from the newspapers and she was busy making up index cards with each obituary. Recently I dicussed donating some books to the library for the genealogy department and also discussed sending copies of all the material that I had on pioneer families of Ben Hill County and sharing what we could amass online that could also be shared with the library. The newspaper transcriptions which will be bound and sent to the library too were due to the fact this young man really was interested in working with the genealogy community to build up the Ben Hill County library. Why did this happen to him? Anyone know why? Gloria "What good is knowledge if not shared?" --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? vote.yahoo.com - Register online to vote today!
I've been abstracting newspaper articles to SW Georgia Newspaper Clippings:http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaswnews/. I came upon the following article inthe Ashburn Advance dated 29 October 1897:"The venerable Wm. Hogan, who lives 12 miles east of here in Irwin county, was in town one day this past week. Mr. Hogan is 84 years of age, and hasbeen married twice. His first wife had 13 children and his second 10, andhe can trace 300 lineal descendants. We doubt there is another man inGeorgia who can do the same thing. Mr. Hogan is one of Irwin's bestcitizens, and although somewhat feeble, promises to be with us many yearsyet."I descend from William Hogan's second wife, Mary Ann Parsons and their son,John Wesley Hogan. I am missing two of the children of the first wife,Eliza. I have no maiden name for her. In the 1850 census they are inEmanuel county. There is an Augustus C. Cone living with William Hogan'sfamily. Augustus is 80 years old and born in Germany. William is li! sted as30 years of age and Eliza 35 years of age. Children listed are: Caroline, age 12; Sarah Ann, age 8; Thomas, age 6; Seally, age 6 (not twins, nextcensus Ceally is two year younger than Thomas; could be that I misread thecensus and Seally's age should read 5); Nancy, age 4; and Axey Ann, age onemonth. All of the latter born in GA. Later they move to the Wilcox countyarea. What I have on the family can be found at:http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~goff/hogan_porter.html . It willbe a little slow to load because it has pictures of my great grandparents,John Wesley Hogan and Clora Aurora PorterI haven't figured out where this family is in 1840. William Hogan was born27 October 1814 and died 03 February 1904. Any help with this family andfiguring out how Augustus Cone fits in will be much appreciated.Zaroga GoffGoff and Stubbs Familyhttp://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=goff "What good is knowledge if not shared?" --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!?
