As a young boy I set pins at the lake for about four years and actually lived on the premises most of that time; the living quarters were upstairs ajoining the skating ring. In those days it was owned by Leon Lewis and Jehu Fletcher and managed by Morgan Bryant. The first pavillian I have knowledge of burnt in the late 1940s and was rebuilt. It was after it was rebuilt I began working there. The lake and beach was beautiful in those days. You`re also correct about the dangers of trying to swim across the lake. I vividly recall late one night unbeknownst to mangement a man tried swimming across the lake and drown in the process. Does anyone out there have any information on what became of the Morgan Bryant family? Preston Young Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. There use to be a Facebook page Remembering Crystal Lake with many pictures and many wonderful comments from so many people. It is gone. Some lady had taken pictures of the place in 2010 or 2011 and was made to remove them. I find it very interesting that the previous or current owners won't allow anyone to have pictures of what it looks like now. Why? Why do the have security and cameras out there? What are they hiding or protecting? If the place is closed and will never reopen, what does it matter? Why don't they just tear it all down so we won't be so curious about the place anymore? Not that I want that to happen. It is strange that everything has been left in tact as if only the water and the people disappeared. I went there many times in my early 20's. It was a great place for young adults and families to hang out and enjoy. It is really a mystery. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. By the way, if you are interested in preserving the old Irwin County historic records, the County Commission will not build the required shelving in the safe of the probate office to house the old original marriage, estate and other records from the probate office.
