My father was Lewis Collins Covington, born in/near Rebecca in 1925. His father was George Clinton Covington and was born in 1884. My great grandfather was Johnson J. Covington and my great-great grandfather was Joseph Levin Covington. I had an aunt, Mildred Covington Courtoy, who lived in Rebecca for a while and an uncle, James C. Covington, who lived in Rebecca his entire life. I also had a great uncle, Lewis Covington who died in Rebecca around 1964-65. I'm very interested in regular correspondence with anyone who can help out. Thanks. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He was the son of Silas Covington. I am related to him through my late father Lewis Collins Covington (of Rebecca), my late grandfather George Clinton Covington, and my great grandfather Johnson J. Covington. I don't know what E. W. Townsend's given name was but I may have it in some records around here. Anyway, Joseph Covington is buried in the Frank Taylor cemetery near Rebecca. Remember that the book I did on the Dorminy/Dorminey family is just of the descendants of John and Rachel Bradford Dorminy. I don't think you will find your Minix marriage in there. As to the Minix/Dorminey marriage, I can't prove it, but I think this Nancy Ann Elizabeth Dorminey is the daughter of John Dorminy b. 1809 and Nancy G. Speirs. This John was the brother of James Dorminey who married Nancy Hester. James and John Dorminy were the sons of Jonathan Dorminey who died in 1826 in Laurens County, Georgia. The only contact I've ever had on this particular line, was Barbara Shankle Morey of Albany, Georgia who was married to Clayton Daniel Morey who was the descendant of that John Dorminy b. 1809. Send me your email address to edorminey@dishmail.net and I'll send you what I have on the family if you are going to research it. I am 27 yrs old and I went there one time in the early 80's and when this place was open it rocked. The water slides. Do you remember that one huge slide that looked like a big park slide and you had to lug that heavy thing up all those stairs you had to slide down it with? I wonder if the place will ever re-open again. I would love to take my kids to it.. I remember the big blue slide right out in the middle that you didn't need a tube for and the 2 slides down in the corner that you could use single or double tubes and the other one I think you just used the mat on. Then you had the two across the street that you used the mats on. Then the one other big slide down in the other corner that you went down in a big yellow tube with about five other people...Good times...Good times... All of these books have the name & signature of James W Whitley in them. Many have news clippings placed in them. One has a program titled "17th Annual Reunion, Pioneer Families of Irwin County" and dated 29 Aug, 1954. It is a tribute to James Whitley, President Emeritus and Veteran Ordinary of Irwin County. There is a picture of Mr Whitley on the front cover of this program. Mr Whitley appears to be about 70 yr old in the picture which means he would have been born about 1885. Anyone heard of this man?
