THE HERITAGE OF HOUSTON COUNTY, GEORGIA: The Central Georgia Genealogical Society (CGGS) proudly announces the commencement of a major book compiling project that will culminate into a publication entitled: THE HERITAGE OF HOUSTON COUNTY, GEORGIA. The primary focus of this publication, will be to provide a history of the families of Houston County, and especially the pioneers of this area. The majority of the book will consist of family information (500-word sketches) and photos provided by the descendants of these Houston County families. Although there have been previous publications about the history of Houston County, none have covered the in-depth genealogical information as this book will. Houston County was established in 1821, and originally contained portions of land that is now in Peach, Macon, and other surrounding counties. Community participation is encouraged. A publication committee will handle the organization and editing of family information about Houston County, GA families. WHAT: The primary focus of this publication, will be to provide a history of the *families* of Houston County, and especially the pioneers of this area. The majority of the book will consist of family information (500-word sketches) and photos provided by the descendants of these Houston County families. This should include: Names, dates, places, occupations, & interesting information about the family. WHERE: Houston County was established in 1821, and originally contained portions of land that is now in Peach, Macon, and other surrounding counties. The Macon County portion was divided in 1837, and the Peach County portion in 1924. WHEN: THE HERITAGE OF HOUSTON COUNTY, GEORGIA will be an in-depth project that will take about a year to produce. In the upcoming months, flyers will be sent out, and the public will be invited to attend a monthly meeting of the CGGS at the Flint Electric building on Elberta Road in Warner Robins, GA. The Society meets there on the 3rd Thursday of each month, at 7:00 PM. WHY: This project has been one that has been discussed for several years, but never came about. The purpose of the CGGS is to collect, preserve and disseminate knowledge and information with reference to genealogical and related historical, biographical and heraldic data. HOW: The CGGS will fund this project. There will be some limited local advertising space in this publication, and also pre-publication sales will be promoted at a discounted price.County Heritage Books will produce this publication.
