The Houston Female College was constituted in 1853 and was called the Perry Baptist Female Seminary until 1854 when it was named Houston Female College. In the late 1880s it was merged with the school for boys. The exact closing date of the school is not known but in 1896 the building was sold to the city of Perry and became Perry High School. NOTE: The above information can be found at Mercer University in Macon, GA in the Special Collections (Archives) Department. All of the records of Tift College are also housed there. Joyce R. Harrsion
