    3. Houston County Researchers: BIG NEWS! The LDS Family History Library Catalog (FHLC) on CD-ROM is NOW available for the general public to purchase for $5. This contains info on over 2.5 million microfilms / microfiche & 300,000 books. For the past 8 years, I have purchased hundreds of sheets of microfiche from the LDS, so that I could perform much of my initial research at home. The Family History Library Catalog is comprised of the following: 1. SURNAME CATALOG: A listing of many of the publications that each particular surname is located in. Even if the surname isn't mentioned in the title of the publication, it is listed if there is a significant amount of that surname listed in the index. I found over 250 publications listed on one of my family lines, and 2 books that my parents are listed in, that I wasn't even aware of. 2. LOCALITY CATALOG: A listing of court records, vital records, etc. for each particular locality, usually by county. This will let you know what has been microfilmed already. 3. AUTHOR, TITLE, SUBJECT CATALOG: A listing by several categories, so that you can locate a microfilm, book, etc. The FHLC data is also available via the LDS website at: http://www.familysearch.org but, for those of you who have ever tried to access the info, know that it can be very cumbersome, at best. Now, with this CD, you will have literally tons of pertinent data at your fingertips. This CD does not have the *actual* court records and family history publications on it; only the descriptions & microfilm / microfiche numbers of them. If you would like to take a look at the description of this CD, here is the URL: http://www.ldscatalog.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=1632783&prmenbr=1402&CGRY_NUM=1440462&RowStart=1&LocCode=FH I'm not affiliated with the LDS. However, I do realize that they have the most extensive collection of genealogical data in the entire world. And, I am always ready to take advantage of every resource that they make available for me. Actually, I wear it out. Take care, & happy hunting! William A.
