    3. The only mention of the "Old King Cemetery" in Addie Howell's "Cemeteries and Obituaries of Houston County, Georgia" that I could find was an abstraction of Mr. Buck King's obit. He died in Aug. 29, 1902 at his home in Valdosta, GA and was laid to rest in the old King Cemetery in Wellston, GA. Do you know of any others who might have been buried there? There is quite a list of Kings in the index but they seem to be scattered in various locations by the page numbers.

Has anyone indexed this cemetery? Is it possible to find out who is buried there and any information that may be on the tombstones? We currently reside in Bonaire and have walked the fence line several times. Although all of the available maps show the cemetery located outside the fence, we have been unable to locate it. We would appreciate any information you can provide.

    3. Just a note since this was brought up, I was born in Wellston 60 years ago today{:> Sandra > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Newberry, Feagin, Carter, Watson > Classification: Query > > This is correct. Wellston was the original name of Warner Robins. It was changed when the first commander at RAFB requested the town fathers do this to honor General Warner Robins, who had been his commanding officer at Wright Air Field, Ohio. They happily complied, during the land boom that made so many fortunes. This boom occurred when it was announced that Wellston would get the Air Depot in 1941. Interestingly, it was the city fathers of Macon, GA that did more than anyone else to bring it there. They bought the original property up from land owners like the Newberry's (who had bought the old Feagin Family plantation), the Carter's (who owned a dairy) and the Watson's (who served as town leaders of Wellston and Warner Robins. If anyone has any further questions, I am a historian on the base and may be of service.

The area was a part of the Creek Confederacy until the treaty of Indian Springs ceded it to the state of GA in 1821. It was named for Governor John Houstoun, a patriot of GA during the War for American Independence.
