    3. Is Martha Melton b. 1832 who married Quincey P. Bailey b. 1830 in Randolph County, Ga. in your line? I am running the Bailey line, but do have some Melon info. Quincey was killed in the War, but have not been able to find out when, where, what battle, or where he is buried. 3. We found a marker at Shiloh Cemetery for this person with the following information: died April 5, 1894 age 50 years There is an inscription but it is only a typical marker "poem", no extra information. The only Sol Patterson that I can find in the 1880 census is listed with a different birth year and is also listed as being black. Anyone out there with more information on this person?

    3. Helen Hudson has sent this very interesting deed for Shiloh Methodist Episcopal Church near Byron Georgia. There is a lot of clean up days being sponsored by members of the Central Georgia Genealogical Society. Join them and help bring this cemetery back to its original state. I would if I weren't 14,000 miles away. regards, Gaila Don't know if you are interested in seeing this or not. Deed for Shiloh Church which would be the area that Shiloh Cemetery is now located. It is two acres, one wide and two deep. Now to go dig out the "modern" description to see if it tells how much is being used as a cemetery. This should be on file in Peach County where the land is located. Helen . 5/27/1831 Grantor: Henry Wimberly & wife Nancy Wimberly Grantees: Thomas Doles, J.M. John, John Jones, Henry Wimberly, David Jamison, All of Houston County Church: Acting as Trustees for the Methodist Episcopal Church at Shilo Part of lot No. 61 in the 5th district of Houston County, GA. 2 acres (Meets and Bounds type description follows. Not a lot of help.) Starting near the center of lot 61, the east line running north and south at a certain Hickory tree near the line and running south 2 acres thence due west, 1 acre thence due north 2 acres and thence east to Hickory tree so as to make 2 acres. There is still an industrial plant there. There isn't a library in Clinchfield, and I'm not aware of much being around that area except for the cement plant. There probably are some family cemeteries in that area ... it is literally, out in the boondocks.

    3. Don Collins bettydon@foxinternet.net Rebecca Collins Obituary published Tuesday, April 2, 1889 Butler Herald. REBECCA COLLINS 1810-1889 Mrs. Rebecca, consort of E.F. Collins of Taylor County, departed this life February 15th, 1889, at the advanced age of 79 years and 4 months. The deceased was born in South Carolina and moved from that state to Georgia at the age of 12 years. She was married in youth to E. F. Collins in Houston County, Georgia, with whom she lived in wedlock until her death. She leaves with her husband, seven surviving children to deeply mourn their loss, for they could not but feel sadly bereaved at the loss of a friend, so long tried and always found true: for, as a wife and companion too much could not be said of Sister Collins, and then the half would not be told. As a mother, she was tender and loving, untiring and unceasing in her care, in providing for her family. Always rising early and toiling late, without allowing herself time to rest (when able to toil) and oftimes, doubtless, when her wearied body would invite to rest; her willing steps were heard, performing her daily duties and her cheerful voice, kind words and bright contenance, diffuse sunshine, joy, and gladness to the entire family circle; therefore to say that she was a true and devoted companion, a kind and loving mother, is only to repeat what is well known to be true by all who knew her best. As a neighbor, she has always been peaceble, quiet, kind, and obliging, charitable and liberal to the poor and afflicted. As a Christian, she was devoted and her christian life is left unspotted to her brethren and sisters, husband, and children, and to the community in which she lived and died. She joined the Primitive Baptist Church at Bethel, Houston County, in youth and was a member there until she moved with her husband to Taylor County (then Marion). She was one of the number constituted at Prosperity, Taylor County, where she lived a humble, devoted and much beloved member until her death and where her body now lies; and as it was my priviledge to often meet her at that place. I have thought that I had often seen her contenance brighten with heavenly light, while hearing of Jesus; and what he had done in love and mercy for sinners. While the big, briny tears would steal their way down her trembling cheek, often such tears, I believe as Mary shed when she washed the feet of Jesus! Such tears, as we mortal can command, or sustain; flowing freely from a contrite heart; saying, and at the same time feeling that I love Jesus; and Jesus loves me, sinner as I am. Such, I have no doubt, was Sister Collins' feelings. I suppose it would be difficult to determine the desease that terminated her existence. During her life she was blessed with reasonable health until a few years before her death, her mind became deranged and about two years hence, she fell out at the door and dislocated her knee, so with all, she was for a long time bedridden, with debility and a distracted mind, her sufferings were indescribable which caused much anxiety and constant uneasiness in the mind of her husband and family and more especially because they could do nothing for her. She lost all knowledge of every member of her family for sometime before her death. NOTE - the last few sentences of her obituary are not legible in the copy that I have. NOTE: Prosperity Church Cemetery - Taylor County Collins, Enoch F. September 21, 1814 - 1899 (husband of Rebecca) (father of Mary A. 1. [GAHOUSTO] Slave Name Sources
    2. Gaila & James Merrington
    3. This is from another list, but if anyone is looking for slave ancestor, State Combined legal cases are an amazing source. The next time you are researching at a Courthouse or a library, see if they have the Georgia State Cases (legal cases) and search those by your surnames and the search term "slave". Or by County and the search term "slave". You will find slaves fighting for their emancipation, slaves named in Deeds, slaves named in disputes. IE the wife inherits the slaves and the bankrupt husband is being sued for her slaves. If her father was worried about his son-in-law, he might stipulate that the slaves go from his daughter to his grandchildren and place an executor in charge of them. In most of these documents, the slaves are named and less commonly the relationships between the slaves spelled out.All in all there is more information on slaves in these records than I have found in other sources, especially information that might benefit a genealogist. Perhaps your local law society or law school has them in online format and you can search. Remember that your ancestor may not have taken his owners name but a neighbor's name. DNA is going to be able to offer a new genealogical perspective to us all and and especially to help us get past brick walls. Best regards, Gaila ----- Original Message ----- From: "Howard E.
